Not a filing drawer and rolls around constantlyDevonI should have read the reviews more closely. This bottom drawer is NOT a filing cabinet drawer. The wheels also don't lock so you have to hold the entire unit into place to open or close the drawers. I got so distracted by the aesthetic of this when purchasing it, and it is completely non functional and a waste to have.2
Great choiceBarbaraI've bought 2 cabinets from the Alex line recently. There are so many to choose from. they go together easily and well made5
Very disappointing designMonicaUnfortunately, I purchased two of these along with the assembly service, so I didn’t realize the issue until both were already built. These are not filing cabinets. They are small rolling boxes with no filing functionality at all. Now I’m stuck with them. This experience has reminded me to avoid buying IKEA items online without seeing them first and to pay closer attention to reviews.1
Buyer Beware, Deceptive design. Not a file cabinet!!!KathyIt may look like a file cabinet, but its not! Cannot fit a file in it unless you lay it flat, which is totally useless. The cabinet doesn't even work well as a cabinet, because the drawers are stiff and not easy to pull open or push shut.
Ikea, you dropped the ball on this one. It needs to be pulled from your furniture line. A horrible and worthless design.1
NightmareDonnaI love ikea. Have several items, bought 2 of these BECAUSE THET ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A FILING CABINET. Do you need to be told what a filing cabinet is, and how it works. You are flat out lying. I bought of these pieces of crap. I’m gonna return the other one. You’ve wasted my time, you’ve wasted my money, and now I have a useless set of drawers, that don’t even slide like my other Alex does. shame on you. If I could give you -10 rating I would1
Terrible DesignBrianThis is a really bad design, it's not a file cabinet despite the name, does not include hardware to hang files, and if you attempt (as I did) to order metal rails somewhere else, and put those in, you'll find files and folders have to be twisted to jam them into the cabinet. I love the Alex series, but this cabinet could have been so much better. Also, wheels don't lock, so whenever you attempt to pull out either drawer, the whole unit moves forward, awful.1
Should have read the reviewsMattThis is not a file cabinet just a deep drawer. I’m annoyed it shows up in the search results for “file cabinet” and looks like one. I don’t know why IKEA doesn’t include the pieces to make it a filing cabinet like the larger drawer Alex model. 2
HappyDanielleLove it, just what I needed for my active file folders and my desk pens, markers & desk supplies. Easy to put together. FYI there isn’t a file folder holder within the drawer but I used a magazine file holder to contain and organize the files.5
Not a file cabinetElaineThis is not a file cabinet. There is no way to hang files. There’s no materials for it and even if you have spare parts from the full size Alex file cabinet the larger drawer on this unit is too short to even try to hack or reconfigure. The inner drawer walls are oddly and unfunctionally short. This is simply a deep drawer and shallow drawer. Do not purchase with the intention of hanging files.1
It is NOT a filing cabinetKatI bought a pair of these to replace an old falling apart filing cabinet. This came up in a search for “filing cabinet.” A photo of the bottom drawer made it look like it held hanging folders. It is not, in fact, a filing cabinet in any way. I tore my office apart for this project. Assembled the first one and quickly realized…no hangers. Also, the quality is so much worse than the last IKEA pieces I’ve assembled. So disappointed. 1
