Love the lookAlmaLove my new shelves. Pretty easy for one person to set up. I would say if you have extra hands defiantly ask them to help. It is heavy once all put together.
Great for Board Game and MTG StorageScottEasy to assemble and excellent for board game storage and display. The KALLAX is sturdy, versatile, and looks great. The drawer inserts were also easy to put together and install, and they work exceptionally well for storing MTG cards and accessories. Very happy with the setup.

Good design, poor qualityDamienThe design is nice, but the 'oak effect' is misleading—it isn’t even a veneer, it’s just paper! During assembly, one of the adhesive bumpers got stuck to a shelf. When I tried to remove it gently, it ripped the paper finish right off...!! Afraid the shelves will be damaged very easily.
Still goodKevinThere seems to be a newer finish (same color, but more .. plasticky) on these units, but if you can get them on sale they are a very good value & fit lots of stuff well. Billy system is nicer-looking, by far, but is better suited to books & ephemera; Kallax is deep (think: two-rows of books deep), and less good for library storage. But for general storage, esp with bins and drawer/cabinet inserts, Kallax is ideal.

Terrible QualityCandiceI purchased several kallax systems to use as i reorganize my living space. This is my first time buying from Ikea and assembling a Kallax. My first try was the wood veneer 5x5.
The assembly process was difficult, not because of any major complexity, but because the holes for many of the dowels and screws were not perfectly aligned, thus making it difficulty to attach the various pieces. we had to lift each side (and the top and bottom) just to align it to properly screw. Also, some of the connection points will lie flush with minor gaps here and there. No matter how many mallet wacks we used, there were always gaps
(and now holes in the very cheap board).
Once the piece was assembled and put upright it wobbled. even without anchoring, I don't think it should sway from side to side as much as it does since the anchors only prevent it from tipping forward.
Missing Parts and ManualMylinhI am extremely disappointed with this purchase. I opened all four boxes, only to find that not a single one contained the assembly manual, screws, or necessary parts for the shelves. How is that even possible? This has caused a major inconvenience, as I now have unassembled pieces with no way to put them together. The lack of basic components is completely unacceptable—especially for something that requires assembly! Now I have to go through the hassle of contacting support and figuring out how to get the missing parts. I expected better quality control. This was a frustrating and time-consuming experience, and I hope this is not a frequent occurrence with this product as I do not wish other customers encounter the same situation.

My favorite storageFrancesI downsized from a large home to an apartment. My primary concern was adequate storage. The previous occupant had removed a large closet. Instead of rebuilding the closet, I opted to use a 5 x 5 kallax unit. I originally put cardboard bankers boxes in the sections. The I ordered sturdy baskets for the bottom row for toys for the grand kids. Happy with the awesome and good looking unit. The black/brown color had led me to use mostly black and white in this room. Would highly recommend this shelving.
