During the year, Ingka Group has experienced an increase in the majority of its 30 markets, with China as one of the fastest growing markets. The company has opened twelve new IKEA stores, including its first in India. Customer visits to its 367 IKEA stores increased by 3 percent (838 million visits) while visits to IKEA.com increased by 10 percent (2.35 billion visits in total).

“This has been a truly inspiring year during which our amazing colleagues have shown strong leadership and entrepreneurship. We’re taking advantage of the fast-changing retail environment and developing IKEA to become more accessible. We will continue to invest in the customer meeting in the store and leveraging our existing assets in new ways, such as making our store a strong part of our fulfilment network. In addition, we’re exploring new store formats in city centers – all with the aim to improve the meeting with our customers both physically and digitally,” says Jesper Brodin, CEO of Ingka Group.

Click & Collect, an online service enabling customers to buy IKEA products online to be picked up at IKEA stores, is now live in several markets, with the U.S. market being the largest. During the year, Ingka Group acquired TaskRabbit in order to offer customers flexible and affordable services such as furniture assembly. The service offer is now fully integrated in the U.S. and the UK, and expanding to Canada this year.

“We are siding with the many people with thin wallets, big dreams and big needs in life at home. That’s why we are making it easy for our existing and new customers to access IKEA when and where they want. We know that 80 percent of consumers start their shopping online, and at the same time we know our stores play an important role in the total experience – as a source of home furnishing expertise and inspiration. We’re tapping into those strengths to provide an even better everyday life for more people, however they choose to meet us,” continues Jesper Brodin.

Ingka Group is committed to having a positive impact on the planet. The ambition is to be people and planet positive by 2030, focusing on becoming a circular business, tackling climate change and promoting equality, while growing the business. As a step in that direction, Ingka Group recently committed to zero-emission home delivery for customers in five major cities: Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles and Shanghai.

Inter IKEA Systems, that owns the IKEA concept and is the worldwide franchisor, announced total IKEA retail sales of $45.0 billion USD* (€38.8 billion EUR) across all 11 franchisees.
