IKEA refines U.S. footprint to support future expansion and customer accessibility

Statement on decision to close IKEA Memphis on May 3.

Conshohocken, PA – February 10, 2026 – As part of a strategic shift to build a more affordable, accessible, and sustainable future, IKEA U.S. today announced plans to close the IKEA Memphis store effective May 3, 2026.

As customers’ needs change, IKEA continues to evolve to better reflect how and where people want to meet the brand today. This includes opening new stores, transforming existing ones, and, when needed, closing locations. The decision to close the Memphis store was made following a comprehensive review, and considering several factors including market share, business performance, cost structure, and overall optimization of physical assets.   Customers in the Memphis area can continue to shop the full range of IKEA products and planning services at IKEA.com/us, with access to delivery options  and convenient FedEx pick-up points in the Cordova area.

Whenever changes are made to physical locations, the ambition is always to retain as many co-workers as possible by supporting transitions into roles at other IKEA locations. Impacted co-workers who do not transition to a new role will be offered severance.

As the retail environment continues to evolve, IKEA remains committed to the U.S. and is investing $2.2 billion to expand brand presence and accessibility, which includes opening 14 new format stores in 2025, with plans for new locations in 2026. Future growth plans also include strengthening home delivery and pickup services, enhancing digital capabilities, and modernizing physical locations. Guided by the IKEA values and a vision to make life better for the many people, these efforts are designed to position IKEA for longevity and growth in the U.S., so that more people can create the homes of their dreams.
