This influencer’s entryway makeover makes a lasting first impression

Nedra Davis of Brickendhaus used IKEA Kreativ to give her home’s entryway a small but mighty refresh that will welcome guests in style.

So much attention gets paid to the largest spaces in a home — think living areas, bedrooms, and even offices. However, transitional thoroughfares like entryways deserve some consideration, too. Whether you’re working with a big foyer or just a small wall opposite the door, this spot is the first introduction guests have to your home. Needless to say, it should make a good impression.

Design enthusiast, Nedra Davis of Brickendhaus, has quite the spacious entryway (lucky girl!) and knew that there was so much more that she could do with it. Enter IKEA Kreativ. Thanks to this virtual design-meets-shopping experience, Davis was able to scan her space and quickly and easily try different pieces of furniture and decor to see how they would look and feel before buying a single thing.

We caught up with her to chat about her beautiful entryway makeover and her inspiring sense of style.

Q: How would you describe your design aesthetic?

Nedra Davis: I would describe my style as relaxed, collected, and eclectic.

Q: Who or what inspires you when it comes to interior design?

ND: I really love the look and feel of mixing in high and low pieces in design and emphasizing furniture and decor items that are both functional in our lives, but also beautiful.

Q: What problem(s) were you trying to solve in your entryway?

ND: My entryway continues to be one of my favorite features in my home and I wanted it to feel a bit more welcoming and cozy. While the space is less than 7 feet wide [about 2 meters], it is very long, and I wanted to emphasize the size of the space — but also not make it feel too crowded.

Q: How did you incorporate your personal style into your entryway design?

ND: I incorporated my personal style into the entryway design by choosing items that added a gentle pop of color and [made it possible to] display various objects [that] I’ve collected over the years.

Q: How did IKEA Kreativ help?

ND: IKEA Kreativ allowed me to visualize the ideas I had in my head [and explore different possibilities]. Without spending any money upfront, I could try several [pieces of] furniture to gain more confidence in designing the [entryway] to fit the needs of my home.

Q: What tips do you have for anyone wanting to refresh their entryway?

ND: Think about how you want the space to feel when you walk in the door and how you want to greet visitors. The next tip would be to prioritize function, but make it pretty!

Q: What is one thing that surprised you the most about using IKEA Kreativ?

ND: The process [of scanning] and virtually [designing] a space with IKEA products was so easy! The simple step-by-step process made it so easy to quickly begin designing the space. I was also surprised at how many products were available for me to virtually try out.

Q: What is your favorite thing about your new entryway?

ND: It feels so good to walk through the door, into a welcoming entryway that feels cozy, collected, and intentionally designed.
