Product support policy for smart products from IKEA
You can keep using your smart home products from IKEA, for as long you keep them
Use cases:
- We have designed IKEA Smart home products to function even without an internet connection or the need for a remote server like basic functions, i.e. turn on and off lights.
- You can use the IKEA smart products with your DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway connected with the IKEA Home smart app (IKEA Home smart for DIRIGERA hub and IKEA Home smart 1 for TRÅDFRI gateway).
When your DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway is connected to the internet, the software will be updated with new features when it comes to providing digital updates and patches.
DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway
We will offer software support for three years after purchase, to ensure the DIRIGERA hub / TRÅDFRI gateway:
- Works with the applicable IKEA Home smart app/ IKEA Home smart 1.
- Gets security updates.
- Gets updates to ensure compatibility with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant.
Smart products (including SYMFONISK speakers) from IKEA, not including the DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway
We will offer software support for smart products from IKEA for five years after purchase if connected with the DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway to ensure that your smart products from IKEA:
- Work with applicable IKEA Home smart app/ IKEA Home smart 1.
- Get security updates.

What are products from IKEA marked with the label 'Works with IKEA Home smart'?
These are smart products from IKEA that can be controlled with the applicable Home smart app if connected with the DIRIGERA hub or TRÅDFRI gateway. The current range of smart home products from IKEA can be seen here.
Will my smart products still work after the end of support?
Yes! You can continue to use your smart products from IKEA even after the end of our software support with remotes and/or the DRIGERA hub and/or TRÅDFRI gateway for as long as they last. To be able to benefit from the latest updates, you can connect the smart products to the DIRIGERA hub and IKEA Home smart app.
IKEA will support you via our Customer Support Centres and with information on ikea.com in case you have questions or need support with your smart products from us.
How do the DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway work?
- The DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway are designed to be connected to the internet. They receive software updates directly from IKEA when connected to a router with internet access.
- IKEA intends to continue to support the DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway with required security updates as well as maintain compatibility with our online services and the applicable IKEA Home smart app (IKEA Home smart for DIRIGERA hub and IKEA Home smart 1 for TRÅDFRI gateway) for three years from the date of your purchase.
- After these dates, IKEA may choose to continue to provide software updates and/or compatibility with online services and/or mobile applications.
How do smart products with our label “Works with IKEA Home smart” (including SYMFONISK speakers) get updates?
These smart products receive software updates directly from IKEA when connected with:
- DIRIGERA hub and IKEA Home smart app with internet access, or
- TRÅDFRI Gateway and IKEA Home smart 1 with internet access
An exception is SYMFONISK speakers which receive updates directly from Sonos through the Sonos App.
