Still going strong 5yrs, 3 apts later!RebeccaI never thought anything Ikea could be this good, but I’ve had such great luck with this bed! It’s even been disassembled a couple of times and moved apartments with me and is still working great. The last move I wedged it into a corner and removed the lock mechanism in the front of the bed so I could lift the mattress up from the side. Probably not great in the super long term (maybe bending the frame?) but it’s been like that for 3 years now and I have more than gotten my money’s worth in apartment rent with the cheap tiny space I’ve been able to live in and the mattress is totally heavy enough to keep the frame down. Great buy, highly recommend.5

Not the best item of Ikea furniture I’ve assembledKennethWe have 7 kids, sent 4 through College so far. I feel I’m a fairly proficient assembler. However, this Malm bed has new locking hardware that just will not cooperate. Instructions show cams flush with outside edge. Not correct, they need to be quite countersunk. Bottom them out. I removed a locking pin (other side of fastener) to use for a locating pin. Then everything went like you expect an IKEA assembly to go. 2

Great storage solution - careful not to overfill it though!MikeOnce TaskRabbit put the bed together, it works exactly as expected and looks great. It’s quite heavy - i can barely move it on carpet, but otherwise it does what you’d expect very well. Just be careful to keep stored items low enough that they don’t impact the bed slats which you will feel through the mattress above if there’s too much stuff below.5

bad designMeganQuality is nice, but because of where the inside hardware is placed you lose about 1/3 of the storage space, which was the whole point. Very poor design.3

This is the best bed ever!! JaimieIf you have teens this is the best solution I have ever found. In fact both my kids loved these storage beds so much they came back and took them to college after they realized they couldn’t live without them. I had to then buy more of these beds for my house. They hold so much stuff and when you open the bed it’s all there laid out where it can easily be seen. They lift up so nice and easy and make organization so much better!! 5

Great bed with spacious storageLeilaVery happy with my purchase. I assembled the bed by myself (female) and took a long time, but it is worth the effort. Instructions can be a little unclear, but if you pay attention you should be fine. Very nice looking bed, and I could fit a lot of stuff underneath the bed. The only thing I think they can improve is the thickness of the base board, but it’s still pretty good. Would recommend.5

Assembly looked daunting and took longer than most IKEA products, but wasn't difficult for one person to accomplish. The tilt mechanism works smoothly and is easy to use. 5

L-O-V-E IT!AgnieszkaI love, love this bed. It takes time to assemble (follow the instructions) but it's worth it. It has huge amount of space for storage. Keep in mind that the storage under the mattress gets dusty so it needs regular cleaning, but it's really useful. You can keep your whole collection of sheets and pillows and quilts and whatever else you use in there. The bed opens easily, but there's one thing you should be mindful of. When you find that your bed is stuck and won't budge and open, press it down and pull the strip that's supposed to open it. It works every time. What happens is that sometimes stuff gets on top of the inside hinges that hold up the bed frame and that creates upward pressure preventing you from opening the bed. That's why when you gently press down on the bed, get rid of that upward pressure you're able to open the bead as it should open. It's a really great bed.5

Absolute nightmare to assemble.CalebI used to assemble furniture professionally for a couple of furniture stores and i have usually never had a problem with Ikea in general. I always use the directions, but some things are so easy I don't even need them! But this is and has been a nightmare. I am not even halfway through assembly and I have a dent in my headboard, the directions do not clearly mark the top and bottom part of the metal frame even though IT IS CRITICAL and they are DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT. nightmare purchase. Honestly considering disassembly and returning.1

Is IKEA getting worse? JennaI bough this bed less than a year ago and two drawers have completely come apart and now I have to spend $80 on new ones. IKEA is getting more expensive while the quality of their stuff is getting worse. I don’t recommend this bed in any way. 2

Not an Inch of Wasted Space!GinaThere is so much wasted storage space under every regular bed. This bed changes all of that! Every inch under this bed is usable space. Better than drawers. This bed was easy to put together, and the tools needed were provided. The finishes are top quality. My guests are amazed when I tell them this is an IKEA bed. Now I just need a taller one in a California King size!5

Still amazing after 5 years!LoriI purchased this Malm white queen storage bed for my daughter in 2020 and it's been the perfect storage solution with the modern, clean design we love. Like all IKEA products, the assembly was straightforward, but you MUST follow the instructions step-by-step, or you can find yourself doing rework. The mechanisms for the hydraulic lift work smoothly. Depending on the mattress you have (we have a Tempur-Pedic, which are heavy), it can be a bit of a challenge to start the lift process, but once you get it in motion, it glides like a dream! We keep extra pillows, blankets and duffle bags underneath, so we don't have to access them often. The slats hold the mattress firmly in place and after 5 years, the bed is still perfectly quiet....no squeaking! We are now relocating it into a guest bedroom and are hoping to get many more years out of it. I would highly recommend this bed for it's clean, simple look and functioning design. 5
