The IKEA Assembly: Imani Keal (@imaniathome)

Imani Keal is a Washington, D.C.-based interior decorator and self-described “forever renter” who specializes in making small spaces spectacular. When lockdown confined her to her 500-square-foot apartment, Imani didn’t let it get her down, instead she dedicated herself to outfitting apartments, even if it meant sacrificing her damage deposit. Describing her style as Neutral Maximalism meets Eclectic Coziness, Imani helps to make abodes more beautiful through renter-friendly DIYs and lifestyle tips for the design-obsessed millennial. Imani's work has been featured in the Never Too Small, the New York Times, and Apartment Therapy.

What does home mean to you?

“A home is a place that offers refuge, safety and a sense of belonging. It's the laughter, bright colors and warmth we all yearn for but often can't find in this crazy, busy world. My home, even as a renter, is where I feel the most myself.”

What describes your personal style at home?

"There's nothing I love more than a home full of decoration and funky accents. I'm always on the hunt for new pieces that look like they could be vintage. I get most of my design inspiration from stately European homes and mix that with the flair of a 28-year-old who is a total city girl.”
