Welcome to a Scandinavian-inspired 4-room BTO flat for a young family of 3
See how IKEA Home design service designed this Scandinavian-inspired 4-room BTO flat with warm wood accents for a young family of three, within the newly developed Bidadari estate.
Let's explore the key spaces of this home!
Where their new story begins
IKEA Home design service worked with the client and his family to plan a 4‑room HDB BTO flat that feels organised, comfortable and easy to live in. With IKEA’s end‑to‑end design service, the client had one team to support him throughout, from planning, project coordination and final furnishing.
This made the whole process simple and manageable, and the result is a home that suits their routines and built with quality and safety in mind.

How we transformed the space
Understanding the vision, we co-designed the space with our client to translate his dream home into a reality. By blending wood textures with a palette of clean tones, we meticulously curated every detail. From customisable bedroom wardrobe solutions to selecting matching door front colour accents, the effortless Scandinavian simplicity and elegance were brought right into the client’s new home.

Our client’s journey, in their words
"As parents with a young kid and the need to often live with elderly parents, our biggest challenge is how we could customise different functional areas under space constraints with safe materials at a reasonable cost. Instead of dealing with multiple third party vendors and different furniture brands, we greatly benefited from IKEA Home design service's comprehensive consult, design and installation approach. It is exactly what we have envisioned our dream home to be."
A comfy living room to lounge in
As young parents, the clients’ greatest joy is to have a cosy and safe environment where they can engage with their young child. By prioritising an open-concept layout in the living room, we created an airy, healthy space that welcomes just the right amount of natural sunlight. IKEA also uses safe and responsibly sourced raw materials, which gives them a peace of mind.
An open-concept kitchen/dining area
With space constraints in a BTO flat, we need to make the best use of all the square feet we have. From cooking, serving and dining to socialising, a well-designed dining space for the family needs to cover all the bases. The METOD system became the centrepiece of the kitchen. Designed with clean lines, generous storage, and flexible configurations, it fits perfectly into the family’s open‑concept layout.
From cooking together or sharing meals with friends, this thoughtfully planned space brings comfort, togetherness, and ease into everyday living. Furniture with rounded corners like the LISABO series are also specially selected with child safety in mind.
Let's take a closer look at the kitchen and dining area!

A bedroom that invites you to relax
The master bedroom was designed as a peaceful retreat — a quiet space where the client can rest, recharge, and feel at ease. The floor-to-ceiling PAX wardrobe system anchors the room with generous storage that keeps everything organised behind smooth wood‑tone fronts, maintaining a serene and uncluttered look.
Paired with a cosy TONSTAD bedframe, airy curtains, and a compact workspace that blends seamlessly with the overall design, the room feels both functional and soothing. It’s a restful haven designed to bring clarity, comfort, and a gentle sense of calm to the end of each day.

A word from our designer
"Every home begins with understanding the people who live in it. We begin each design journey by listening closely to our clients’ needs and learning about their daily lives. Through these conversations, we study their lifestyle habits and transform these insights into meaningful designs that feel both personal and functional. We are pleased that our client and his family are enjoying a comfortable space that truly reflects them."
