Mission: make room for more moves
Turning your living room into a dance hall for a night is all about freeing up floor space, i.e. placing furniture along the walls. Having a modular sofa or tables that can be nested is a clear bonus.
Divide the room to fit activities
Aim for a clear division of the room: the floor designated for dancing and movement, while the sidelines offer space for refreshments and catching one’s breath. For perfect mobility around guests, drinks and the room, throw a tray table into the mix.
Use textile to style and protect
Hide the things you want to be extra careful with behind a length of fabric (weighing it down with e.g. a fastened curtain rod makes it taut and protective). Besides decluttering the room, textiles help set a festive mood and make a good photo backdrop.
Rethink furniture for party purposes
There’s only so much stuff you can move out of the way. To ease the workload, try to repurpose furniture to help out with the party. Like turning a desk into a refreshment stand (complete with napkin disposal).
It’s easy to get caught in the feeling that you don’t have enough room. But with a bit of rearranging and repurposing of existing furniture, you can always increase flexibility and – more importantly for a party – find more space.”
