Can I place a countertop directly on top of a washing machine?
No, you should not place a countertop directly on a washing machine or dryer. These appliances move during operation and must not carry any weight on top of them. Incorrect installation can cause damage to both the machine, your surroundings and the countertop – and will affect the validity of the warranty.
To ensure the warranty remains valid, the countertop must be properly supported.
This means it should rest on either cabinets or support legs, and never directly on the appliances themselves.
The distance between support points must not exceed 80 cm, and any overhang without support must not exceed 25 cm.
If you plan to have more than 80 cm between support points – for example, when placing a washing machine and dryer side by side directly on the floor – we recommend using an ENHET support side panel.
It provides the additional support needed to meet warranty requirements and ensures a stable and durable installation.

We do not recommend placing a washing machine on top of an IKEA cabinet. Placing a washing machine or tumble dryer on top of an IKEA cabinet might seem like a space-saving solution, but safety is an important consideration. METOD cabinets are not built or tested to support the weight and movement of washing machines or dryers, and there is a risk of damage to the appliance, the cabinet, and the surrounding area. Instead, we recommend using stable platforms or furniture designed to stand around or above the machine.

For laundry rooms that are not in wet areas, you can use laminate countertops such as EKBACKEN and SÄLJAN or our more exclusive countertops in quartz composite, high-pressure porcelain, and glass composite - KASKER, MÖCKLARP and LOCKEBO. If you plan to have a countertop in a wet area, we recommend TOLKEN, ÅLSKEN, or HEMTRÄSK.

This is because the washbasin has an overhang on the sides, which prevents the high cabinet and vanity unit from being positioned flush against each other without the washbasin making contact with the cabinet.
