How do I sync TRÅDFRI remote control with a light source?

TRÅDFRI remote control was sold between 2016 and 2024 in various versions as part of the IKEA smart lighting range. With the remote control, you can switch the light on and off and adjust it wirelessly. Below you can find a simple step-by-step guide on how to pair TRÅDFRI with a smart light source.

With smart lighting, you can connect one or several light sources to the same remote control. With a hub, you can unlock even more features and gather all your smart accessories in one place. Smart homes have never been easier.
  1. Start by screwing in the LED bulb and turning it on using the switch on the wall or on the lamp itself.
  2. Locate the small button underneath the cover on the underside of the remote control.
  3. Press and hold the small button for up to ten seconds while holding the remote control no more than 5 cm from the bulb.
  4. The bulb will “flicker” while it is syncing with the remote control. When the light source shines with a clear and steady light, it is synced with the remote control.
