How do I burn a carbon steel pot or frying pan in the oven?
Carbon steel distributes heat evenly, keeps the vessel warm for a long time, and gives food a nice sear if the seasoning is done properly. We recommend avoiding exposing the pot or pan to drastic temperature changes as the vessel may warp. We explain how to step by step perform a burn-in in the over.
- Preheat the oven to 200 C°.
- Pour in vegetable oil and grease the entire pot/pan with paper towels.
- Put the pot/pan in the oven for about 30-40 minutes.
- Remove the pot/pan and allow it to cool to room temperature, wiping off any excess oil.
- Repeat the process and burn in the pot/pan one more time.
- Remove the pot/pan and allow it to cool to room temperature, wiping off any excess oil.
- Done!
