Versatility in eight segments.CThis version of Kallax was purchased to fill a space next to our front door, after a water leak destroyed the previous piece in that location - which was also IKEA. Kallax is protected from damp by its steel legs - which lift it off the ground and add a new refuge for our puppy, underneath. . !
Assembly is simple - if one follows the Golden Rule of IKEA - which is to ALWAYS FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. Failure to do so is why impatient smartarses often have problems, so just READ and FOLLOW and you’ll be fine.
The only potential downside of Kallax is the inclusion of a thick, honeycomb type material in the top, base and sides - which may or may not prove structurally sound over the long term - though worries about rigidity are offset by the wall fixings and the (optional) steel legs/base unit.
Time will tell.
Finally, though we prefer the openness of the 30x30 segments for book storage and display, there are numerous inserts available in IKEA, to Personalise your own Kallax.
