IKEA Malaysia Achieves JAKIM Halal Certification for All Restaurants, Cafés and Bistros — Formalising Longstanding Halal Practices

Halal certification reaffirms IKEA Malaysia’s commitment to trusted food standards.
For almost three decades, halal has guided the way IKEA serves food in Malaysia, from sourcing halal-certified ingredients to maintaining meticulous preparation standards and strictly prohibiting non-permissible items. The certification now formally recognises and strengthens these long-standing practices alongside IKEA high standards for quality and safety, giving Malaysians greater confidence and peace of mind.
“Malaysians’ love for our food has always inspired us and that is something we hold close,” said Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Director of IKEA Malaysia. “This certification reflects our respect for trust, culture, and community.”
He continues, “In Malaysia, halal is not just about compliance. It is a matter of trust, cultural respect, and spiritual assurance. Working closely with JAKIM, we’ve ensured full compliance across sourcing, kitchen operations and staff training. Achieving certification actually deepens the bond we share with Malaysians and demonstrates that we value what matters to them most.”
The certification followed rigorous checks and close collaboration with JAKIM, covering ingredient traceability, kitchen workflows and staff training.
This recognition further strengthens IKEA Malaysia’s promise to create a better everyday life not only through home furnishings but also through meals that reflect local values, tastes and expectations.
Malcom adds, “We are always looking for ways to make the IKEA food experience more inclusive, accessible and affordable. That also includes continuing to introduce more sustainable choices, cutting down on food waste, and simply serving meals that are not only delicious, but also better for people and the planet.”
