Baby blankets & quilts

There’s just something extra cute about baby blankets. Maybe it’s their cosy soft texture against silky smooth baby skin. Perhaps it’s their tiny size. Whatever the reason, a baby blanket is great for short naps. And to make life with an infant even easier, our cot blankets are machine washable.

Discover the perfect baby blanket for your little one

A baby blanket symbolises warmth and security for your little bundle of joy. From cotton blankets to cosy knitted options, the right blanket will be an appreciated companion during the early months and years. What kind of blanket do you need for a baby?

A swaddle blanket should be light and breathable, ideally made of cotton or muslin. Swaddling a baby in a baby blanket that is too big, too small, or too heavy can lead to unsafe unwrapping and/or overheating. Whether you choose a cotton baby blanket or a knitted baby blanket, ensure it’s suitable for swaddling and easy to maintain.

Is it OK for a baby to sleep with a blanket?

You may be tempted to offer your baby a soft, warm blanket to help comfort them at night. However, blankets are not recommended until your baby is at least 12 months old due to the risk of suffocation. Also ensure that the baby cot is free of other loose items, such as pillows, toys, and stuffed animals. After 12 months, you can introduce a baby quilt or a soft baby blanket to their sleep environment. In the meantime, opt for a baby sleeping bag.

Choosing the right baby blanket

When selecting a baby blanket, consider going for a personal design. At IKEA, we offer a wide selection of patterns, textures, designs and cute prints. Consider materials such as cotton or muslin, which are gentle on your baby’s skin.

Maintenance and care

To keep your baby blanket in top condition, follow the care instructions provided. Most cotton and knitted baby blankets are machine washable, making them easy to clean.
