Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger and more resistant to breaking than regular glass. In case it would break, it shatters into many granular pieces to reduce the risk of injury.

BeautifulVictoriaLove how elegant it looks, but the paint is weak, and that is very disappointing. Received twice with scrubbed paint at the corners and got replacement alright, only to learn that the black paint over the borders is sensitive to cleaning. Wish it was tough.3

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials.
