When the assembled lamp stands next to the packaging, it can be hard to see how it can fit there at all. A part of the explanation is the cross-shaped base. “We realised that we could make a cross instead of a round base – both to save material and to make the lamp dividable. The cross also adds a unique design element.” The lampshade is made of soft plastic and rolled up like a tube in the packaging. When mounted on the lamp base, it spreads the light both evenly and beautifully.

Nice lamp, but doesn't stand straightAnupamThe lamp is nice. Looks exactly like I had imagined and from a lighting perspective, performs really well. However, it is next to impossible to get the rod to stay perpendicular to the ground. It is always at an angle (like the Leaning Tower of Pisa). If you try to straighten it, the base comes undone and then you have to tighten the rods again. This makes the whole lamp feel flimsy. I've tried re-tightening all the rod sections and providing some support to the base, but nothing works. You get used to the leaning part after some time, but in the back of your mind, you know it's leaning, and that makes the lamp feel cheap. I'm not sure why Ikea did not add some angular supports (strut) between the base and the bottom rod for stability. 4 of them would have solved this problem immediately. Or they could have just gone with a base tripod design. It's very unfortunate, because it is actually a pretty nice floor lamp for the price.

the lock doesn't even stay at place . I am still figuring out how to maek it staright so that it wont fold when i put it on the lamp

Awesome lamp at affordable priceChaitanyaI know many of you are facing issue fixing the lamp shade, it folds too much. After you follow instructions in the manual, when you go for locking them together, make sure the stickers are from the outside. That means, lock them from outside, rough side of sheet should be outside. It will give the shade a counter fold and the lamp shade looks round, which is what we expected. Thank me later 👍

Average ProductAgnibhThis product is not as shown, even the videos shown are not the most helpful. The structure and all is great, no opinion on that, but the shade is the biggest disaster. It's like, somebody woke up in morning and decided to make the absolute worst Shade design that an average person would rather just get a better lampshade. It doesn't unroll, it opens up randomly, it is not stable, Even fan air shakes it a lot. Not the best choice. The only thing I would had done was bought this and put a different shade on top of this.

Big design in a small package
Every now and then you need to think outside the famous box to achieve something innovative. But, when we developed BARLAST lamp, we instead stayed inside the box. The goal was a really good lamp at a really good price, and that made the packaging a decisive starting point. From there, we worked our way backwards with materials and design.
Cecilia Sondell Banke, one of our product engineers involved in the work with BARLAST, explains why the packaging can be so crucial for the price: “Transportation is often an essential part of the product cost. By packing the lamp efficiently, we avoid transporting air, and the total cost becomes lower.”

To secure stability and that BARLAST fulfils all legal demands, we made thorough calculations and tough tests. “The products with the lowest price are often the most challenging to develop. All our specialists need to be onboard from the start, and we have to think through the whole process step by step. But, they are also very creative projects that we learn a lot from. And when it comes to BARLAST it resulted in a really nice lamp in a small package,” Cecilia sums up.
