What types of bulbs does IKEA provide, and what are their features?

IKEA only sell LED light bulbs, which are the most energy efficient.

At IKEA, we only sell LED light bulbs, which are the most energy efficient bulbs available, lasting up to 20 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. Using them consumes less energy, saves money and generates less waste.

Wattage: Amount of energy the bulb uses.

Lumen: Indicates how much light the bulb gives.

  • A 600 lumen LED bulb gives the equivalent amount of light to 48 watt incandescent bulb.
  • A 1000 lumen LED bulb gives the equivalent amount of light to 72 watt incandescent bulb.

Kelvin (K): This indicates the bulb's color temperature. The higher the K, the cooler (bluer) the light. The lower the K, the warmer (yellow) the light.

Dimmability: Some of our bulbs are dimmable. They will have a dimmability symbol on the package.

IKEA sells 3 categories of LED bulbs:

  1. Regular bulbs (provides basic functionality suited to most lamps).
  2. Decorative bulbs (provides basic functionality with a vintage look).
  3. Smart bulbs (brightness and color can be changed wirelessly via a remote and/or an app).

For most light fixtures, information about the bulb required for the specific light fixture is found on the label of the product, on IKEA.ca, on price tags in the store, in PIA facts, in our buying guides, in PDOC and sometimes within the assembly instructions of the light fixture.

As a general rule, if the light source is built-in, the light bulb cannot be replaced.

All IKEA lamps have standard light bulbs that can be purchased at your local hardware store. Please note that light bulb codes can vary from store to store. Other retailers may not recognize an IKEA term such as "E17 base." We can assure you, however, that this is a common bulb available in most hardware stores. E17 light bulb refers to the base of the bulb which measures 17mm in diameter.
