My fridge and freezer are making an unusual/strange noise, why is that?
Refrigerators and freezers can sometimes emit different sounds, usually it is normal operating noises that ensure that the product works as it should. Sometimes, however, the sound may indicate that the freezer needs a manual defrost.
Cause: A short-lived, buzzing sound can be caused by high ambient temperature and when the compressor starts.
Solution: These are completely normal operating noises from the fan and compressor. The fan ensures that the temperature is correctly distributed, and the compressors that the right temperature is reached. It's not a technical error.
Rippling sound
Cause: Rippling noise is caused by the refrigerant in the refrigerant circuit.
Solution: It's perfectly normal operating noises when the coolant moves in the lines. It's not a technical error.
Clicking Sound
Cause: The compressor or any component of the product is switched on and off.
Solution: It's perfectly normal operating noise when compressors, thermostats and other components are turned on and off. It's not a technical error.
Scratching noise
Cause: Scraping noises may be caused by too much condensation forming in the freezer, causing the fan to freeze or hit icicles that have formed. There can be several reasons why condensation has increased, the most common of which is that the door has been open for too long or is opened frequently.
Solution: Defrost the freezer manually by following the steps below:
- Turn off the freezer and pull it out if possible. Remember to protect the floor.
- Set up the freezer door. The door must be kept open at all times so that all the ice disappears. To ensure that the freezer is completely free of ice build-up (including hidden spaces), defrosting needs to last for at least 24 hours.
- Leave the bottom drawer in place so that it collects the melt water that drips down. It is a good idea to place a roasting pan or similar on the floor that catches the water and protect the floor by laying out towels.
- Keep an eye on the back of the freezer as there is a risk that water will get on the floor if a lot of ice has formed. Empty the plastic container located at the back of the freezer if necessary.
- Make sure the inside of the freezer is completely dry before starting it again.
