    Sun loungers for every space

When choosing a sun lounger, consider how much space do you have to work with. With an open garden, you can easily fit one or more large sun loungers in the grass or on the patio. Just consider how much space you want to dedicate to sunbathing, so you still have room for a garden barbecue or a game of boule.

A small balcony might limit your options somewhat. However, a foldable beach chair can fit even the smallest of balconies. Also, it can easily be put away when not in use, which make it a good choice for smaller spaces. A good tip is to choose a chair that matches your balcony flower garden, to set a theme for your outdoor room.

How to take care of your sun loungers

All our sun loungers and hammocks are made to withstand the elements, but they are not indestructible. If you want your sun loungers to stay looking fresh for years, here are a few things you can do.

First, make sure to wipe them down to avoid moisture. This protects against mould or mildew infesting the material. Second, when you’re not using your outdoor furniture, put them in storage indoors or cover them up. We have a wide selection of outdoor furniture covers that you can find among our outdoor accessories.

Distance between supports for a hammock

If you hang a hammock on supports such as trees, they should be  3 to 3.5-metres apart from each other. The easiest way to hang a hammock is by using a hammock stand. When hanging a hammock, follow the manufacturer’s instructions precisely.

    Choosing a good hammock

Hammocks that have hooks are more straightforward to hang than those that have cords to be knotted. A hammock with a stand is more convenient to move without worrying about changing the supports. Hammocks without a spreader bar tend to swallow you up when you lie in them. A spreader bar keeps the hammock nice and even when you lie in it. A hammock that has pockets to hold your books or glasses will save you from reaching out to a table or having to get out of your comfy hammock repeatedly.

Getting in and out of a hammock

It may seem simple enough to get into a hammock, and it is when you know how to. To lie in your hammock, first sit in it securely and comfortably. Then simultaneously, lower yourself and lift your legs into a lying down position. Lying down slightly diagonally in your hammock is better than lying down straight. If you find that your hammock is not comfortable or too stiff or saggy, you might have strung your hammock on supports that are too close or too far apart. When you get out of a hammock, reverse the steps that you took when getting in. Ensure that your feet are firmly on the ground before you try to stand up.

    Hammock safety

    • Buy a quality hammock designed to hold your weight. Only use the hammock for the number of persons that it is meant for. Avoid overloading the hammock.
    • Tie a hammock securely and precisely as instructed by the manufacturer. Ensure that there is the recommended space between the hammock supports. Ensure that the hammock supports are sturdy. Tying a hammock low enough for the occupant’s feet to touch the ground makes getting in and out easy and safe.
    • Hang your hammock over a safe surface. Avoid hazardous or potentially dangerous areas to hang a hammock.
    • Check if the hammock is suitable for indoor or outdoor use and use it accordingly.
    • Choose a stand that is easy to move and also easy to immobilise.
    • Do not let children use a hammock unsupervised. Hang a hammock very low for children to use. Place a thick rug under the hammock.
    • For adults, the hammock’s lowest point should be no more than 60 cms from the ground.
    • Always check your hammock for signs of wear and tear and ensure that there are no breaks in the hammock fabric.
    • Follow the safety guidelines prescribed by the manufacturer.

    Leaving a hammock outdoors

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the life of your hammock. In the winter months, it is advisable to store your hammock safely indoors.

    Cleaning a hammock

To clean a hammock, wash it by hand. Do not machine wash or tumble dry a hammock.

Get some chair cushions or pads to make them cosier and add a cover to keep them protected.
