Side tables

Not Just A Side-Kick To Your Coffee Table

Our side tables keep your phones, snacks, or tea close at hand while you cosy up on your couch. They also add to the beauty of your interiors. Like the LÖVBACKEN that comes with a distinctive grain pattern on its veneer top or the traditional white LIATORP that looks elegant. There’s also the KRAGSTA range of nestling tables if you want more room to keep things while saving floor space, and the handwoven LUBBAN that lets you move your things around if you decide to shift to the bedroom.

A side table can have a huge impact on convenience as well as décor. A classic side table with drawers can give your space a sense of glamour. Or maybe a more modern-style side table with intricate designs can help tie your contemporary room design together.

A nest of tables gives your plenty of occasional table space, and an occasional table is easily stored when not needed. Either way, you’ll have a convenient spot to keep a book, place a drink or to store the remote.

Be space efficient with the side table

If you want to get the most out of your space, the right side table can do double duty as storage. A side table with storage offers a great place to keep extra pillows and blankets for cold winter evenings. Or maybe use it to store bedsheets next to the sofa bed, in case a guest needs to spend the night.

If you only have occasional use for a side table, you can also choose an occasional table. These handy tables fold up and store easily, ready to be used or be put away as needed.

Adjustable storage with a nest of tables

A nest of tables allows you to quickly adjust your storage needs on a whim. Pop out an extra table to hold another bowl of snacks and disappear it just as easily once movie night is over.

Choose the right side or end table for you

In our range, you’ll find plenty of side or end tables to suit your taste. Choose between everything from nightstands and storage tables to serving carts and tray tables. We offer models in plenty of materials and styles, including wood, metal, plastic, glass or even hand-woven rattan.

Decorating a side table

You can decorate a side table with a vase or a lamp. You can also keep a small stack of books close at hand when you relax on the sofa. You can display plants, decor and souvenirs on the side table. The only rule to keep in mind is that you should leave enough room for a couple of cups of tea on the side table.

Protecting the side tables

Side tables serve as a handy place for teacups and snacks. But sometimes, beverages can ruin the finish of the table. Side tables with easy to clean surfaces are easier to maintain. You can also use coasters or small mats to protect the table surface. Remove wet table mats as soon as possible to protect the table finish.

Height of side tables

A side table should not overwhelm the sofa or be hard to set a teacup on. So, a side table should be lower than or the same height as the sofa’s arm. On average, sofa arms are 24 to 32-inches high. If you don’t have a choice, select a side table that is not more than 2-inches taller than the sofa arm. Measure your sofa before choosing a side table. If your table is armless, choose a short side table or a side table that is as high as the arms would be.

Placement of side tables

Side tables keep beverages, snacks and books handy. So, place the side table within arm’s reach of the sofa.

Style of side table

If your sofa is very busy, a simple side table would be best. An ornate side table looks good with a plain sofa. The easiest option would be to buy a side table from the same collection as other furniture in the room. If you think that all the room furniture is too square, you can add a little softness with round side tables. But, round tables have less space.

How many side tables do you need?

Every seat in the living room should have some accessible table space. So, if you have a large coffee table, you can have fewer side tables. You can also buy a set of nested side tables like the GRANBODA design, where three side tables can be nested into one. This way, you always have extra side tables handy when you have guests.

Mismatched side tables

Side tables do not have to be exact matches to each other. If there is some element that either ties them to each other or the rest of the pieces in the room, they will make the room look more attractive. You could choose tables with different legs or bases but the same size and shape of the top.

Size of a side table

Consider the use of the side table before you select one. If you will be placing a few coasters and a vase on it, a small one will be best. If you are an avid reader and want to put a reading lamp and a stack of books on the table, select a larger table. Side tables with storage make for a great place to store coasters, remote controls and reading glasses.

Also, if you’re looking for something larger or more robust, be sure to check out our coffee tables and our console tables as well.
