Lighting for METOD

A beautifully lit kitchen sets the stage for many happy hours of cooking

Lighting can be used to beautify your kitchen and enhance its functionality. A kitchen is more than a place where meals are prepared. It is also the place where you spend a significant amount of time with near and dear. A kitchen is a multifunctional space that needs multiple lighting solutions.

Lighting for functionality and good looks

Ambient lighting sets the mood in a kitchen. It helps you navigate the room and perform simple tasks. Ambient light is also essential to set the mood in the room. Task lighting is useful to light up counters for food preparation and other essential tasks. Overhead lighting that is too bright will cause shadows to fall on the work surfaces. To provide bright, shadow-free light, counters need to be lit with under cabinet lighting. Overhead cabinets are easier to use when they are lit. A focussed light that turns on when you open a cabinet door helps you easily locate items within the cabinet.

Flood your workspaces with light

One of the most essential features of a well designed kitchen is well lit countertops. Overhead lighting casts shadows over the work area. So, merely relying on ceiling lighting for the kitchen may deprive you of the bright light that is required for food prep. Most of the tasks in the kitchen involve sharp knives and hot surfaces. Good lighting is essential for safety in the kitchen. Cooking is often a visual process. You need to be able to see clearly to determine if your dish is perfectly cooked.

Cabinet lighting

Glass fronted cabinets in the kitchen are functional as well as decorative. A good over cabinet light highlights pretty arrangements of crockery and glassware. It serves as a secondary layer of ambient and functional lighting and creates a warm and cosy atmosphere. Pick a lamp that is sized and angled perfectly to shine a light on the entire shelf depth of your cabinets. Items tucked into the back of your cabinets are easier to locate when there is ample lighting. LED lamps that are fixed above cabinets are both energy efficient and attractive to look at. They use 85% less energy than traditional bulbs and last 20 times longer.

LED worktop lighting

LED lights are very thin and can be unobtrusively installed under kitchen cabinets. You can install narrow LED strip lights end to end under the cabinets to light up your work surface.  Or, you could install a wider panel for a wider glow of light under your cabinets. Ensure that you choose lighting that is specifically designed for the METOD cabinets so that their size specifications perfectly match the cabinet dimensions. Lights with a dimmer help you more precisely control the brightness that you require. When you are not using the worktop, you can dim the lights to their lowest setting for a decorative look.

Remote controlled lights

Lights are much easier to control when you use a wireless dimmer. Our dimmer controls allow you to connect and control multiple light sources together. Our remote controls can be wall mounted with a magnetic bracket. So, you can take the remote with you when you enter the room and replace it on the wall mount when you leave the room. You can also connect the lights to the IKEA Home smart app for control over your home lighting from a single device.

Drawer lights

Drawer lights help you find things in your cabinet drawers easily at night. Pick a light that automatically turns off when you shut the drawer to save electricity. Pick a light that is perfectly sized for the drawers so that they do not interfere with the operation of the drawers.
