Reviews

canny jar for sweetsVerified Reviewerfilled it with sweets looks great!5
Smashing, but not in a good way!Verified ReviewerThe jar itself is a good size & a nice simple design. I bought it especially to keep dry tagliatelle pasta in. My reason for the dropped stars relate to the glass lid, which just rests on the rim. There is a rubber 'seal' but it does not suction the lid on, as a result the lid can easily move, which is what happened to mine resulting in the lid sliding off and smashing on the kitchen floor. The product promised much, but left me disappointed & with a lidless jar... If they could just tweek the top design to make it fit securely, it would be 5 star for sure.2
Depends what you use it forVerified ReviewerAs in previous feedbacks the lid is not air tight which is a shame as I would buy more if it was. That said, I store sachets of coffee and hot chocolate in mine. Please Ikea feedback to manufacturers/buyers that this jar needs to be airtight - or else disappointed customers and loss of potential sales3
Lovely jarVerified ReviewerExcellent jar, keep my candle tea lights in it.5
Great value for money but not airtightVerified ReviewerI bought these glass jars to use in my utility room to store washing pods. They are a good size and great value for money but if you want to use these for perishables such as sugar biscuits, flour etc then please note they are not airtight. Although they come with a rubber seal on the lid, they are not airtight and the lid just pops off after a minute or so so they would not keep any foodstuffs fresh.3
Very loose fitting lidVerified ReviewerBought for biscuits but lid is very loose and does not seal (as per item description). Will not keep anything fresh at all. Very disappointed.1
Poor lidVerified ReviewerBrought 2, neither lid fits tight, so loose, so not fit for purpose. Too far away to return.1
Lid doesn't seal wellVerified ReviewerItem looks good but lid doesn't seal tightly which kinda defeats the purpose!1
Lid is looseVerified ReviewerLid is loose4
GreatVerified ReviewerPerfect accessory to the kitchen5
No sure as don’t sealVerified ReviewerNo sure as don’t seal quite reight2
Glass storage jar with lidVerified ReviewerPurchased this product yesterday. The lid is not tight fitting. Total waste of money. Will cost more in fuel than its worth. Not happy 😒 its the glass jar with tight fitting lid....or not in this case.1
Lid isn't airtight and doesn'tVerified ReviewerLid isn't airtight and doesn't fit securely as l wanted it for a biscuit jar. Only reason one star given due to it being glass and not plastic.1
Top is Not vacuum sealed to jarsVerified ReviewerAlthough appear pretty. These jars are NOT sealing . However when you look at them they appear to be. When we purchased them they were sealed with plastic wrapping to the jar this we couldn’t figure out. And tbh didn’t bother as at the time was pretty sure the top would seal onto the jar. To my dismay when I got home and opened it up- the top just loosely sit on the jar. This does give a good look to the kitchen however if you have friends or guest you need to constantly warn them that the top is lose which is annoying.3
Excellent valueVerified ReviewerNice size and keeps biscuits fresh. Probably shouldn’t have bought a see through biscuit barrel though as it’s too tempting to eat the contents…5
No fit for purposeVerified ReviewerThe lids are shrink wrapped on to the jars so it wasn’t until I got it home and unwrapped it that I discovered the lid only sits on the jar and isn’t air tight. Absolutely useless, and quite frankly dangerous if you were lifting down from a high shelf as any tilt makes the glass lid fall off. Very disappointed with this purchase.1
Too smallVerified ReviewerBought as I thought it would be ideal for spaghetti but it's just a bit too small. Also, the lid doesn't seem to close properly.1
Lid isn’t air tightVerified ReviewerI brought 3 of these yesterday thinking the lid was air tight they definitely weren’t not happy I should have read reviews before hand1
NOT air tight!!Verified ReviewerPurchased 6 with intention of storing dried fruit and nuts. Pictures are misleading!!! Lid is not air tight. NOT suitable for food!!!!!!1
StorageVerified ReviewerLovely quality item5

Designing for the tastes of people around the world

Do you sometimes cook dishes from other cultures? Then you’re part of an international trend called transculturalism. It basically means that global cooking and eating habits are a lot more similar than you may think. How can we cater for this trend? We designed the VARDAGEN series with products that can be used in multiple ways. In Swedish, VARDAGEN means “every day”, which is just how the products are meant to be used, no matter where you live.

“Consumers have access to cultural diversity in cooking and eating from all over the world,” explains Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom, who helped create the products. “They want to taste the best of all cultures, which means that it’s not only in Asia that we need eating products for sushi.”

Creating products for all our differences (and similarities)

The VARDAGEN products are designed to turn differences into similarities. Like the eggcup. “We did it in a shape that it’s more like a very small dip bowl,” explains Ina. “So it’s also for Asian eating, you know the bowl where you put chili paste and other condiments.” Another bowl has just the right size and shape to be a rice bowl in Asia, but it can also be used as a side-salad or cereal bowl.

Answering the global demand for durability

VARDAGEN is uniquely suited to the global market—catering to the different needs of eaters. One thing people all over the world seem to agree on is the importance of durability. “We know from all the studies and research we do that people don’t want to buy and throw away things, they want to buy something that lasts,” says Ina. That’s why VARDAGEN is made from durable and sustainable materials, like glass, porcelain and stainless steel. That means, just like the name VARDAGEN suggests, they’ll be useful every day for many days to come.

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
