If you have difficulties pushing down the plunger, remove it from the pot. Then try to push it down slowly and gently vertically. Do not force the plunger down or to the sides since the glass may break.

Far too much waste material associated with this purchase not good environmentallyAnonymous reviewerI went into IKEA to purchase a new glass for my coffee filter but you are made to purchase the whole unit which results in a slightly higher price, but more importantly, a great deal of (body) plastic and steel that I just didn't need.
Much better would be to offer replacement glass cylinder container, (the piece that normally gets broken), and separately, the filter section/holder/lid, that does not.
It seems perfectly sensible to me as it saves some of the cost; squandered resource and prevents us sending the almost non-biodegradable part of the purchase directly into landfill!

I did not put it in dishwasher and wash it really carefully fully with soft sponge but today i saw it has a hole at the bottom!! Just beneath the plastic bottom protector… I am really disappointed did not expect that from a good brand like ikea

Ridiculous design that works great for a few pots full...then falls apart.Anonymous reviewerGreat cafetiere, at least to begin with. Bad design, the base that holds the mesh and spring loaded press on is plastic.
I've had cheaper cafetiere presses from Tesco last longer as the base of the handle is threaded metal, which obviously doesn't soften in the heat like the plastic base on the IKEA press.
Roughly 10 uses in, used infrequently and not every day...this things fails apart, as the plastic threads in the base are no longer strong enough to keep the handle and mesh together.
Looks good, cheap, but not worth it.
