Reviews

Poor QualityAnonymous reviewernoisy and ineffective unless on full power. Knob broke - cheap plastic rubbish1
Blew up after 2 months of useAnonymous reviewerIt suddenly stopped working. I switched it off and then back on, and a small spark appeared before it shut down completely. After that, I could not turn it on again, except for the lights.1
Works okAnonymous reviewerReally nice that its completely hidden, but it's noisy when compared with the power that it doesn't seem to have to actually extract.3
Button is TerribleAnonymous reviewerAs other reviews have stated, it's incredibly loud and the button is so flimsy and I'll be amazed if it lasts a year.2
DisappointingAnonymous reviewerFundamentally the hood it works fine. However the control knob broke after about 20 months. Ikea does not handle replacements, passed us to Whirlpool, who passed us to Faber, who (despite a 2 year warranty advertised on their site) charged £56 for a replacement. It's injection moulded plastic, screen printed, with a metal clip accessory, so maybe 30p build cost? It has cost us 20% of the initial purchase price to replace a part "under warranty" at both retailer and manufacturer.2
Was happy with it. Looks great but then knob broke! So upsetAnonymous reviewerWas ticking all my boxes and I was keen to tell my husband to go to a higher price model and we were glad we did until the knob just broke off!1
Broken Control KnobAnonymous reviewerI feel daft for reading the reviews, and buying it anyway and thinking it will be fine. The control knob broke early on as it is not fit for purpose. It’s dissaponting they continue selling a sub standard product.1
Metalic grease filter and dial knobAnonymous reviewerHello , I'm trying from a long time to change the grease filter but I can't find nowhere. And the dial knob broke long time ago but I still can use it at the moment, where can I find a replacement .4
Cheap design - control knob uselessAnonymous reviewerConfirming what other people are saying - the control knob is extremely poor quality, cheap plastic. Ours just snapped this evening, I really hope I don't have to replace the entire unit based on one substandard component! 1
Very noisy and hard to fitAnonymous reviewerI've just had this extractor fan installed as part of a wider Ikea kitchen installation. Firstly, the installer had terrible difficulty fixing the extractor tube into the tight space behind the cabinet, and I've found the tube was not correctly attached, so I've had to reattach it myself. Secondly, the extractor fan is very noisy - it rattles at first, but then settles into a loud whirring noise. It seems to work ok, but is much noisier than I expected. On the positive side, it looks smart and is nicely concealed into the Metod wall cabinet. It's also easy to operate. I just hope the control know lasts, though, as I've read reviews that it breaks easily. 2
Noiser than in the storeAnonymous reviewerWe bought this because in the shop it was nice and quiet but when installed it was noisy and not very efficient 1
Disband the cost cutting teamAnonymous reviewerLike the rest of the kitchen , it's good quality and looks like it will last. However.... There has been too much cost cutting. I binned all the IKEA screws and used my stock from Screwfix as the IKEA ones were rubbish quality and not self drilling. Similarly with the nails. Other units had similar irritating cost cutting, eg one plastic clip where 3 would have been ideal. I spent £3,500 on the kitchen, for another £20 in costs for IKEA ( and probably £25 extra cost) the whole assembly process would have been much easier.4
Great extractorAnonymous reviewerThis is a really great extractor and the light is fab too. Easy to fit.5
Good product but faulty part still not been replacedAnonymous reviewerI am basically happy with this extractor fan. It fits well and appears to extract well. We have not been able to install it properly yet for two reasons. 1. The extraction hose is bigger than the duct that was fitted by our builder, we had to buy two step down fittings. They came undone instantly and we have not yet resolved this. 2. There was a fault with a part, the non return valve. I called customer services and raised a support ticket but have not had a response yet. It took well over an hour to get through on the support line and I haven't yet had time to call back yet.3
Light have failed and can’t seem to find replacements Anonymous reviewerThe overall fan design is discreet, we have had no issues with the control knob at all so that been fine. We have had both lights separately stop working and we can’t seem to find replacement parts frustratingly. The lights went after 3 years. It would be great to be able to source these replacement parts. 2
The energy efficacy is great, but not the designAnonymous reviewerI haven't encountered the knob problem yet since I have just bought and installed it. The reason why I still buy this product is because of its high energy efficacy, but the design really make me down when I tried to follow the instuction book. There are 3 major design problems. 1. The space left between the board of METOD Wall cb frm f b-in extractor hood, white, 60x37x60 cm is so narrow which I cannot tighten the tube on it. 2. It fits with METOD Wall cb frm f b-in extractor hood, white, 60x37x60 cm, but doesn't fit with UTRUSTA Hinge w b-in damper for kitchen, 153° at all. You just can't close the foor if you use 153° hinge. But there was no warning on product and no one in store told me about this to stopped me buying this hinge. 3. The instruction asked me to install the tube from the top of the carbinet but it doesn't make sense. A wall cabinet for an extractor hook should be installed near to the ceiling. So the tube scrached the ceiling paint off.1
So far so goodAnonymous reviewerWorks well no issues at all. I thought it would come with filters but they are separate. I think £30.005
Control knob broken Anonymous reviewerSame issue as many others, the control switch has broken after very few uses. 1
Broken knobAnonymous reviewerKnob broke after 3 years of use. Helpline is of no use as being sent from 03448225225 to 02076601517 back and forth with no one taking responsibility.1
Very pleased with this brilliantAnonymous reviewerVery pleased with this brilliant extractor.5

Quality

Sensitive to noise or have an open-plan home?

For extractor hoods, a noise level below 60 dB is considered low – roughly equivalent to a normal conversation between two people. We measure the noise level of our hoods at max speed, making it easier to compare different models. Note that sound levels decrease at lower speeds, and recirculating hoods are typically louder than those vented outdoors. Noise may also increase if the ducting is long or has several bends, as the air has to work harder to pass through the system.

Function solution

Sound levels

Sound levels for appliances are measured in decibels (dBs). Our extractor hoods have been tested in speed 3 to determine the dB level. The sound level of your extractor hood is affected by: • Type of installation. Exhaust-mode or recirculation-mode. • Length and diameter of the exhaust pipe between extractor and exhaust vent. The longer it is and the smaller the diameter, the louder it gets. • 90° bends. The more bends you have in the exhaust pipe, the greater the sound.
