Product details

SÖDERHAMN seating series allows you to sit deeply, low and softly with the loose back cushions for extra support.

Light, airy design with high legs and slim lines, yet still a great comfort thanks to the elastic weave in the bottom and high resilience foam in the seat cushions.

The sofa's sections can be used freestanding or combined in different ways to get a size and shape that suits you and your home.

If you need a larger sofa, you can add a section or two to your existing combination.

You can create your own perfect combination with the planning tool. Assemble, take apart and put together again until it’s just right.

The removable back cushions give your body support where needed. For example, place several behind your back for a more upright position or use them to make it comfortable when lying down and reading.

The depth of the sofa makes it perfect for relaxing or even taking a nice nap.

You can choose to use the sofa with or without armrests, depending on the expression you want to create.

The high legs make it easy to clean the floor under the sofa.

This cover is made of the fabric Viarp in cotton and polyester. It has a clear texture and a mélange effect that makes it less sensitive to stains.

The cover is easy to keep clean since it can be machine washed and is easy to take off and put on again.

10-year guarantee. Read about the terms in the guarantee brochure.

Good quality but assembly designVerified ReviewerI bought the 3 seater configuration as you see it in the photo. I had this sofa before and knew it is sturdy (even with long legs) and good quality. However to assemble this, one must poke a hole in the fabric of the base (which is fine but very hard to do because of said good quality) but IKEA doesn’t supply a tool to do this. I fashioned my own implement and ended up with a small very minor cut on the finger (which is not a problem) the issue is that I was bleeding on the fabric of the new sofa! Had to wait a few minutes for the cut to clot.4
Disappointing, uncomfortable.Verified ReviewerVery disappointed with this sofa. The bottom cushions are very thin and have huge gaps in between each other, this, together with the back cushions not being fixed into place makes it very uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time as there is simply not enough decent support. The design might look nice if the sofa isn’t used but once you sit on it, because the cushions aren’t fixed they end up all over the place and so you constantly need to prop the back cushions up again every time after you get up. Also, the covers for the bottom cushions aren’t very tight fitting so end up wrinkled. My previous Ikea sofa was so comfortable and lasted well over 10 years and still looked and felt as good as new, I have had this one not even a month and it is already looking and feeling worn. I bought the corner seater and will be returning one of the modules I haven’t unpacked, but will have to put up with the rest of it until I can afford to change it. Very disappointing, would not recommend.1

Our take on cotton

We use cotton in many of our products, from sofas and cushions to bed linen and mattresses. It is a soft, durable and renewable fibre that breathes and is good at absorbing moisture. All these great qualities make cotton one of our most important materials, but it isn’t without its challenges, much having to do with conventional farming methods that negatively impact the environment and poor working conditions for farmers. With our size and production volumes, we want to drive change in the cotton industry.

Working together to drive change

Each year, IKEA uses around 0.5 percent of all cotton grown around the world. This may not seem like a lot, but the number is big enough to drive change in the industry. For many years, we have been working with partners and stakeholders globally to transform conventional large-scale cotton farming and set social and environmental standards for cotton production. As an example, we helped set up the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) who runs the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. Today, more than 110,000 farmers have adopted more sustainable farming practices within IKEA projects.

Ensuring compliance throughout the value chain

All IKEA products are produced in accordance with the IKEA IWAY Standard, our Supplier Code of Conduct. It sets out the minimum environmental and social standards expected from our suppliers, including compliance with local laws. We do not accept any form of forced labour, child labour or treatments in breach of our supply chain requirements. Our cotton teams across the globe ensure that all cotton used in IKEA products meets the demands of compliance in our supply chain. By having teams on the ground in areas where it has previously been challenging to work responsibly, we can challenge the traditional ways of working and improve the industry. If we discover that we are acting in places where we cannot ensure our requirements are being met, we follow-up on the ground and drive change.

What is cotton?

Cotton is one of the world's most appreciated and used natural fibres. Textiles in cotton are soft, hardwearing and can be washed at high temperatures. They are also good at breathing and absorbing moisture – making them pleasant to wear close to the body. Today at IKEA we use more and more recycled cotton and strive to make sure that all the new cotton we use has been grown and produced with less and less amounts of pesticides, fertilisers and water.
