Beautiful TableAnonymous reviewerI was looking for a smaller dining table that still gave the option to seat more when we have guests and this one seemed to be perfect. It took longer than I thought to build due to the extending mechanism but it works so smoothly was definitely worth it.5
Beautiful looking table but -Anonymous reviewer- after fully assembling the table, upside down on a large blanket exactly as per instructions, on finally righting the table I was disappointed to find that the extension leaf had a noticeable pressure indentation mark on its top surface. Its a shame, but I'm keeping the table because I like it!3
Few issues to address manufacture wise and the table will be excellentAnonymous reviewerThis was a replacement to an previous version. I had not paid enough attention to see that there is a right-angle stripe of veneer going through the middle of the table. This visually distorting addition was made to prevent water damage to the table at the point of connection (which I have experienced in the previous model and understand the supposed improvement). However, appreciated, would it be possible to adjust the veneer placement in 90 degrees, to the whole table? Unfortunately the problem persists with the rest of the movable parts and it's aesthetically displeasing seeing patches rather than even surface Secondly, the plastic clips holding joints together are not meeting expectations. Soft, flimsy and unclips on its own. Would it be possible to review them for quality and fitness for purpose?3
A sturdy table with a playful mechanism. I’m delighted with it.Anonymous reviewerI’m genuinely delighted with this table. When space is at a premium but you still want to host friends, having an extendable dining table is desirable but they don’t always look aesthetically pleasing or hold the extension leaf within it. The designer dealt with this issue. It extends effortlessly. I went to Wembley to see it in action but they were refreshing the dining area and so I couldn’t review it.There we’re other tables I had in mind from other stores but the lead times were far too long with Christmas in mind. I decided to take the plunge. I did have to get a task rabbit to help with the assembly as it looked complicated to me but the tasker managed to build it within about an hour. It is massive extended but even in the unextended state, there is more than enough room for everything you need at meal times. It is heavy and feels very sturdy. I’m pleasantly surprised. I was concerned that it’s not all solid wood but I think the pros out way the cons.5
Good table but not without flaws Anonymous reviewerWhilst this is a good solid table, with an easy and space saving extender mechanism, there are problems with the clips used to pin the table together, and these need to be better designed. Whilst we can use the clips to keep the table extended, the clips will not stay attached whilst the table is in its non-extended configuration. This means that the table starts to in effect creep apart whilst we are using it non-extended (which is the majority of the time). I also feel that this table is perhaps £100 or so overpriced for the quality of finish and material used 3
Perfect for UsAnonymous reviewerLooking for a round extendable table. Feels solid. Easy to extend. 5
Easy to build. Very sturdyAnonymous reviewerEasy to build and very sturdy 5
Easily Expandable Dining table Anonymous reviewerSmooth finish and very easy to convert from 4 to 6 and vice versa. Sturdy with sophisticated change mechanism.5
Good qualityAnonymous reviewerWe're happy with this table. Looks great in our new modern kitchen. Easy to assemble. This was the only colour available, though.5
Scratch on tableAnonymous reviewerI have found a 7 cm scratch on the extension surface after I used 2 hours to assemble the table. I am so disappointed1
GoodAnonymous reviewerLike table and good quality5

Modern dining setup with round, light-brown SKANSNÄS table, four matching chairs, and sleek pendant light in a bright, green room.

A timeless dining experience

After having designed and produced furniture for more than 70 years, we have some goodies in our archive that can serve as inspiration for new furniture. Sure, everything wasn’t better in the past, especially not comfort and flexibility, so it’s important to base the work on our needs today, just like we have done with the SKANSNÄS series.

The 1950s and 60s were a real golden age in Scandinavian design history. The lines became cleaner and the materials gave character. In our archive, Designer Mikael Axelsson found a real treasure chest of inspiration. “Typical of that time are generous chairs with wide backrests without visible fittings or screws,” tells Mikael. “But they were sold ready-assembled, and the flat pack hadn’t had its breakthrough yet.” Today, our smart wooden plug, the wedge dowel, means you can easily assemble the SKANSNÄS chair. And the plug is invisible from the outside!”

A chair to lean back in

Although many of the chairs in the archive were really comfortable, we wanted to achieve even better comfort. Through trial and error, Mikael and the team searched for the most perfect angle of the backrest and created a seat that is really comfortable to sit on for a long time. “We chose paper cord for the seat since it's strong and gives pleasant suspension when you sit on it.”

For small and large dinner parties

The SKANSNÄS series is made of beech, a hard and durable wood with beautiful graining – just like many of the furniture in the design archive. But, today most of us put higher demands on flexibility. The tables have a so-called butterfly extension. When the house is full of guests, you can easily unfold it and extend the table in a matter of seconds. “SKANSNÄS tables and chairs are made so you can lean back and enjoy small and large dinner parties for many years.” And who knows, maybe they will also become treasures in the archive that inspire future designers.
