SKÄRANDE has been the saviour. It's a doddle to use. My knives are sharper than ever before and in fact have now been 'repaired' by this sharpener. And all for just £10. Incredible work, Ikea. Highly recommended.

beware purchase attempt if under 21Anonymous reviewermy 'youngster' - 18 recently tried to purchase this sharpener as they are heading to Uni.
They were denied purchase and it was confiscated, I wasnt allowed to purchase for them as apparently it was known that I would pass it on to them.
Apparently it is IKEA policy to deny purchase to anyone under 21.
This is puzzling...UK law says at 18 your able to purchase knives and be responsible with them. IKEA deems this to only occur at 21.
What is REALLY stupid is that the same applies to a none lethal device used to sharpen the knife and make it safe to use. Presumably the same policy applies to knife blocks ?
Please IKEA review this ridiculous policy - at 18 you are deemed responsible everywhere in the UK apart from IKEA.

Professional quality if you follow instructionsAnonymous reviewerI have struggled to find a good knife sharpener but this is perfect Follow this guide and you will have sharp knives all the time Put some cooking oil (I use sunflower) into the sharpener. Run blade through first wheel 20 times, push forward then pull through counts as one. Ensure you do not apply too much pressure and run the blade through slow and central. Make sure to run right to the tip of the blade. Repeat with 2nd and third wheel. Do not clean the blade between wheels, this helps to keep rougher surface. Once you have finished with wheel 3 was blade under cool water then dry it. Check to see if blade is sharp along the full edge. Repeat if needed. My knives have never been sharper. That goes for kitchen knives, camping knives and others. Fantastic product but requires oil not water. The rubber bottom and handle are a big plus too
