A hidden work surface in a bookcase - genius!Anonymous reviewerI have a small studio so space is a premium. Folding furniture is essential. I bought the bookcase to replace a folding picnic table I have used for years.
I would have liked to fit files on the bottom shelf but sadly the shelves are fixed and do not have any adjustment.
The bookcase was easy to put together. The two front shelves move very smoothly on my laminate flooring to reveal the table. It is a sturdy work surface. I can fit a basic chair on castors in the gap when the table is in position. I am using it for art work and so the top shelf of the bookcase holds my essential art tools. When not in use the table easily folds away. There is a gap between the first and second shelf - my laptop slips neatly into this space.
There are safety features to prevent the bookcase toppling over.
It would be good if this type of design could be incorporated into one of the taller bookcases. It would be nice to have the option of different colours/finishes.

Great idea but needs improvementAnonymous reviewerMy daughter needed a desk and had asked for a bookcase for her anime collection. WHen putting the desk away the shelf (acting as legs) folds in which spills books etc onto the floor, we thought we would stop if fixed to the wall, but still not any better.

Clever design but not for tall skirting Anonymous reviewerThis is a clever design for a craft room but I have an old house with tall skirting and can't get it flush against the wall to secure desk to wall. I tried to cut out the back to accommodate the skirting but then the desk gets caught on the skirting when trying to fold it back in!

Really good idea, but maybe wait until they tweak itAnonymous reviewerThis product is a really great idea. It holds a decent amount of stuff, adds so much more space to my spare room and the desk doesn’t feel cramped at all. downsides are you absolutely need to fix this to the wall otherwise you’ll be struggling to open and close it easily as all its weight is in the bottom two shelves. Usually, I don’t fix because I don’t have children but it’s 100% necessary for this bookshelf. Maybe don’t buy if you’re renting and can’t fix. Another negative would be the space at the bottom of the bookshelf for skirting boards is maybe a little bit too small especially if you live in an older property. That can lead to difficulty fixing it to the wall because you can’t get it snug. Final downside would be I think there needs to be some kind of mechanism to slow/hold the tabletop when you’re collapsing it. Right now, it feels like all the weight drops at once and it drags/tips the rest of the shelves.
Might be worthwhile waiting to see if they make any changes to it
Legs improvementAnonymous reviewerGreat product, the only thing I would add would be a way to hide the front legs, so it is more smooth. If they could be installed facing back or come with another piece of wood to cover would make it look better.
Do it, don't hesitate just do itAnonymous reviewerOmg! If you are crafty in anyway this bookcase is for you. Bought it for sewing on as i have a lack of space and what an absolute life saver!!! Pulls out a really good work space, best thing I've bought all year. WORD OF WARNING the back panel is folded in half and the instructions dont specify that. Thought i had a wrong/missing part!
Revolutionary designAnonymous reviewerI have a tiny room and this bookcase changed the game. It is 200% effortless to pull put and put away. It takes no space when it's folded and the table is giant when it unfolded but still does not make the space feel cramped. The built was easy enough but requires 2 people. And the top shelf is a perfect height.

Fantastic home office deskAnonymous reviewerThis is a fantastically engineered bookcase with sliding desk/table. Has a really great surface area when extended to work at, and slides away so neatly when not needed. Was delighted when IKEA released this piece as it was the perfect solution to a small home office/guest bedroom and had been looking forward something for ages but nothing quite fitted the bill. Easy to put together as always and super sturdy.
