Zipper on the cover is terribleAnonymous reviewerI wanted to give this product a few months before writing review. The cover is EXTREMELY tight. Even after banging the rods together as tightly as possible, the cover still barely stretches to cover the whole frame. The first cover zipper broke within a month. I contacted IKEA customer care and they sent a new one. Before putting the second one up, I again tightened all the rods on the frame in attempt to get the cover to have some slack. No suck luck. The zipper flap broke on the first try to close the door. I put a thick wire through the broken piece of zipper to try to get it back open. Now it’s stuck half open flopping in the breeze. The frame is fine, so I suppose if you look for a separate piece of polyurethane cover, it’ll still work. If you don’t need the door to close at any point, it will probably be fine. But when it gets colder and you need a true green house, this will NOT work.1
Zip a big problem!Anonymous reviewerI really wanted to love this as it is mostly perfect. I reviewed it a short time after I bought and gave a good review. But the first one I bought within a month the zip had failed ( the teeth went wonky and you couldn't open of close it) Brilliant customer service replaced it immediately. 2nd one lasted 3 months and the same thing has happened. I really wanted to replace it again but chose a refund as I know the issue will most likely occur again. Such a shame.2
Great concept, poor execution.Anonymous reviewerI was really excited to get this back in April, and of course filled it with tomatoes. Unfortunately the zipper on the opening side has snapped off pretty quickly on the outside making it difficult to close, but not impossible. It's now mid August, and over time the zip has jumped over on some of the teeth, creating a clump of fabric at the closed side. This has now lead the the zip only closing halfway round and at this point the teeth don't align and it's effectively impossible to close properly. This is affecting keeping the pests out now, as it's effectively open all the time. And as it's open, it keeps getting caught in the wind, I've ended up strapping Omar shelving to it to keep it grounded. I know it's not as cheap as others, and not as expensive as a proper green house, however I did expect something like the door to not break before the end of its first growing season, and to be more robust and resilient to the thing it's meant to do.2
So far, so good Anonymous reviewerJust starting out growing my own veg in my back yard. As a frequent shopper at IKEA, I thought I'd give this a go. Like the majority of comments, I found the cover to be a VERY snug fit! It's putting too much pressure on the small zip which is probably why so many are reporting failures. But mine is ok so far as it's been too hot to close the door. As the summer draws to a close, and the winter races towards us, I'll reserve judgement on the sturnmdyness of the frame (yes I've weighted it down) - plus note is the shelving. Good distance apart allowing room to move 4
Could have been greatAnonymous reviewerGood price and design, but the cover is a major flaw and has required considerable expense to keep it functional. The cover still does not quite meet the ground despite having had 20kg of stones weighing it down for 8 months. Zip broke within a week, so door is not functional. I have had to replace with a tarpaulin, guide ropes and Velcro tape, which had had to be applied a number of times. In short, I would avoid. Some people appear to have got lucky which suggests there is a major issue with quality control.2
ABSOLUTE GEM🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Anonymous reviewera lot of negative reviews nearly put me off ..so glad I ignored em because it was easy to assemble [yes , really] and functionality is great. Zip a little stiff at first but has smoothed out ..Just have to let the unit settle a while. All u need to do is check connections and retighten joints as you go...I even resited mine onto pallets and minimal retightens needed.. seeds and bulbs have rocketed in better temperatures so for £70 this is exceptional value 👌 TACK ‼️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟5
Don’t botherAnonymous reviewerGreat product in theory and in store. The first one we bought and assembled was a nightmare - the cover was way too small. It was replaced by a very helpful customer services team (reason for the 2 stars). We have just had the weather to assemble the replacement and, whilst the cover was a better fit, the door still wouldn’t zip up. We added sand to the pockets, left the cover in sunlight to warm it up (as per forum advice) but nothing worked. The zip pull broke in my hand (very flimsy) and the cover does not close up - it’s leaving my plants very exposed to the unseasonably cold weather. Really disappointed. I’m trying to work out how to get a refund but as I bought the product in store, I do not have the order number. I’m really disappointed. I was really impressed with this in store and it was the perfect set up for my garden on a budget.2
As others Zip brokeAnonymous reviewerZip broke on day 1 had to fashion a new door out of some new covering and Velcro. 2
DisappointingAnonymous reviewerThis product does not meet the expected quality of an IKEA product. The greenhouse failed completely in moderate winds. The frame moved so much that it constantly fell apart. I tried binding the joints with tape but to no avail. Once the joints became disconnected they ceased to hold effectively. Additionally , like many other reviewers, I found the cover to be a little tight and the zip to be weak, however it is the flimsiness of the frame and the weakness of the joints that really lets it down. It is a shame since the concept, notably the integrated shelving, is good. I cannot believe that this product was tested sufficiently.1
Awful zip!Anonymous reviewerThis is a brilliant little greenhouse, particularly as the shelves are included within it. It’s comfortable to walk into and I like the mesh system where the seed pots sit down into the mesh shelving - however the very lightweight zip broke within a couple of days and I have not been able to close the front since. It’s such a shame as putting a cheap zip in the front completely spoils a well designed item4
Great little grow houseAnonymous reviewerI was worried about this product based on other review but it was by far and away the most attractive temporary green house I could find. Took a punt and it was well worth it. Easy to build and the cover went on fine. It's tight and needs two people (one to pull taught and one to fasten into place) but the whole thing was up and ready to go in 30 mins.5
Cover is too smallAnonymous reviewerI love it, sturdy etc, but the cover is just too small, doesn't reach the bottom, I've made my hands really sore trying to stretch it to fit and its torn a hole in the side, so not fit for purpose, so gutted I was so excited about this and the photo doesn't show a tight fitting cover! like mine is 6" short at the sides, no amount of sand will hold that steady in a strong wind, it will just blow away.2
Same experience re: coverAnonymous reviewerSadly must agree with many other reviewers. It took two of us an hour to wrestle the cover on to even get the front so as the zip came round the frame, never mind the seam. Another half hour of two people to stretch far enough to fasten even some of the velcro ties, which resulted in 3 seams almost splitting and one of the holes at the back popping out its plastic disc. The whole thing still 3 inches short of the base so no chance to tie those, the shortest of all the velcro tabs. With that gap around the bottom, last night's wind whipped straight under the gap and made it a lethal bundle of plastic and metal. Considering solution of buying 4 deck boards to create a ground frame then stapling cover to it from inside. It's very rare that IKEA disappoint, but this definitely needs a rethink on cover size, because otherwise I'd have been delighted with it 3
Almost perfect!Anonymous reviewerAfter reading the reviews I took the chance on this green house. It was easy ( relatively speaking) to assemble and we knew the cover would be tight so I didn’t stress about it. We put it on, waited a day, pulled it a bit more, and another day, adding sand in the pockets. After 4 days of letting the plastic relax it fitted pretty perfectly. The zip is the weak point, being quite hard to close as the two sides aren’t aligned properly. For the price I am very pleased. I have my seedlings and tomatoes already installed. I am guessing it will be good for 2-3 years, maybe more. Would I buy it again? Yes definitely , but would check the zip before putting the whole thing up!4
The cover doesn’t fitAnonymous reviewerThe frame assembly was simple but the cover is too tight. It doesn’t cover the base and despite my best effort the door doesnt zip till the end, defeating the purpose of a green house. I am not sure if it comes under a defective product but will try raising it to see if i get a better fitting cover replacement.2
Cover isn't greatAnonymous reviewerThe structure and construction is as I expect of ikea decent quality should last a little while. The cover is horrendous though, needs extra 3 to 5cm of cover added to the brim/base of it to actually cover it, and another 3 to 5 cm front to back to make it not be too tight the zipper is hard to use and not break. Think they penny pinched too much for the difference in sizes the result can be with poles and plastic connectors. 2
All good so farAnonymous reviewerInstructions were good and everything fitted together well although because the joints were quite tight (which is a good thing), I used a soft mallet to make sure the poles were completely inserted into the holes. We had a bit of wind yesterday and there was no movement (I have it tucked against a fence, the sand is in the pockets and I also put a couple of bags of sand onto the base poles. I would have liked the poles to be a little more substantial but given the price, I’m happy with this product.4
Easy to setup but doesn't lastAnonymous reviewerNice idea, straightforward to construct but even when placed on a flat and even surface the frame at the front buckles slightly inwards, this is before you even place any items on the shelves. As for the cover, its a very tight fit, doesn't cover down the ground leaving a slight gap. There are tabs to secure the cover to the frame so it would indicate that it should cover fully. The zips get stuck and the pull has snapped off - its also very thin so doesn't seem fit for purpose. I ordered in August, a replacement was issued in October but the replacement cover zips have encountered the same issues - zip getting stuck and pull snapping off. The cover can't be replaced separately either, so not ideal for a long term greenhouse. The overall design for the cover and frame stability is in need of a rethink to improve this product to make it fit for purpose. Decided against a another replacement.2
Ripped after first stormAnonymous reviewerAll seemed really good until the first storm of autumn. I had added extra tent pegs so it didn't blow away but the Cover ripped off around the base, so don't know how long it will last.3
Not wind resistant!Anonymous reviewerArrived Monday, and I enjoyed putting it together and 'moving in'. Lovely shelter, and big enough to sit in and enjoy feeling cosy while it rained outside. Unfortunately, stormy weather arrived on Friday, with wind gusts over 50 mph. No amount of ingenuity could anchor this securely, and I ended up having to evacuate all the plants, pots, weights and water tanks under cover of darkness, and drag the now rather bent structure into my garage. A good effort, but needs multiple anchor points, and a stronger, preferably straight, zip. 3
