Reviews

Buyer Beware - Extremely limited longevityVerified ReviewerPurchased in spring 2022, used lightly, and now I'm in the process of dismantling it for disposal in autumn 2023. It really has been such a disappointment. Every single drawer has failed in the same manner. The two screws that locate and hold the drawer runners to the drawers quickly loosen with regular use. The drawers themselves are made from compressed wood chip board that easily deteriorates when threaded in to, such that the screws can no longer be re-tightened. An easy fix migt be to source a longer machine screw and nut from the inside to re-secure the drawers, but the side walls also started to bulge out causing all the other runners to dislocate. The whole thing is just made from insubstantial material. I'd finally point out that mine contained only lightweight stationery - as in the marketing images, some drawers were even empty. Ikea designers - the drawer runner holes should use threaded inserts, and the carcass should be made from a less compressible board.1
Love Alex, very usefulVerified ReviewerI have one in my sewing room and another in my bedroom. Great storage and easy to construct. But it is a lot of drawers, so you need a production line going .4
Draws no longer come in and outVerified ReviewerSuch a shame as these chest of draws are really nice. Unfortunately after a month the screws come loose and the draws no longer push in and out. We have hardly any weight in them so we unsure why.1
Excellent storage solution. Very straightforwardVerified ReviewerExcellent storage solution. Very straightforward to assemble.5
Quality tall drawer storageVerified ReviewerI needed more drawers and this just so happened to fit the narrow space I had availible perfecty. Build was super easy, extremely happy that drawer rails were already affixed too. Overall sturdy build and worth it for the money.5
No casters availableVerified ReviewerDrawers are fine, but they are really heavy so definitely need the castors, but these are out of stock everywhere so can't be ordered or collected.1
Easy to assembleVerified ReviewerThe measurements of the drawers are not accurate. Very disappointed as I brought this unit to specifically store items that were 12’x12’ The draws are shown as being 13’ wide so even allowing for the width of the draw sides there should of been enough room to fit. The actual size including the sides once assembled is 12 1/2’ so the internal area is only just over 11 1/2’ Once assembled it was too late to find this out. NiceVerified ReviewerAfter 3 years of daily use, the runners have come away from the drawers where they were screwed in. I’ve bought a couple of clamps and some gorilla glue and I’m repairing them. In hindsight I’d recommend gluing the runners to the drawers and then screwing them in while you’re busy building the unit. They should last a long time this way.4
PerfectVerified ReviewerPerfect5
Sides bowed within 3 monthsVerified ReviewerSides of the draws bowed within 3 month meaning the draws keep coming off the tracks and fall out. Can’t use the drawers, really bad quality. Nothing heavy in them or on too either. This is the second set this has happened to - we brought another hoping it was a faulty set but it has again bowed in no space of time. Do not recommend.1

Great item!Verified ReviewerGreat item!5
Bad qualityVerified ReviewerI bought mine and at first I thought they were great. However they do not last! The sides of mine have bowed which means the draws do not fit and fall out! After calling customer services I was told that I would have to buy a new one as I had had it longer than 12 months and it was no longer in warranty. I’ve only had them 2 years, I would have thought they would have lasted slightly longer for over £100!!1
Perfect for my needsVerified ReviewerVery easy to put together. Small & compact but the 9 drawers with 2 different sizes enable me to store my craft work perfectly. Very pleased with the item5
Fabulous office furnitureVerified ReviewerThese are brilliant for the office and look nice and tidy5
FabulousVerified ReviewerLove these and fabulous to keep all your make up and stuff in them. keeps everything organised5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.
