Care
Wipe clean with a cloth dampened in a mild cleaner.

My only criticism is that the assembly instructions should be slightly change as it's too easy to damage the top surface when inserting the dowels. Happily IKEA is providing a replacement part.
Bad quality, pieces don’t alignAnonymous reviewerThe instructions are pretty clear but as always with IKEA furniture when you get to the final stages the pieces just don’t click as they should! I now have a slanted, unusable desk and cannot manage to align the final screws despite having followed every step. So disappointing and such a waste of money!

Do not buy!Anonymous reviewerI purchased the ALEX desk less than a year ago and was initially happy with its design and functionality. However, I’ve been really disappointed with how quickly the surface started chipping and peeling with normal use. For a product from IKEA, I expected much better durability.
What made the situation worse was the customer service experience. When I first called IKEA, I was told I would receive a replacement desk top within 10 working days, even though I didn’t have my receipt. Weeks later, I followed up only to be told that this was incorrect and that no replacement would be issued due to the lack of proof of purchase.
The inconsistency and refusal to help—despite the item being clearly faulty—was extremely frustrating. A desk should not show this kind of wear and tear in under a year, and I feel let down by both the product quality and IKEA’s unwillingness to stand by it.
Would not recommend unless you’re prepared for potential issues and poor aftercare

Should have been a lot easierAnonymous reviewerHave put together many pieces of IKEA furniture over the years. This deck was okay UNTIL we got to the hinges. I watched video after video and couldn’t get the hinge to “simply click in place”. My desk is now complete, is functional and does the job intended minus the hinges.
Cute desk but the cable management is not greatAnonymous reviewerI wanted a small desk to replace my Micke desk which had cable management and I thought this would be great.
I have a dock that I have used for a long time to connect multiple devices to my laptop and monitor. My monitor is large.
This was a very very tight fit. I had to buy 90° connectors to make it fit. In addition the outlet for the cables, which you can see from the photos, is in the way so my monitor has to sit to the right or the left but cannot fit centrally as it covers the gap, completely when placed centrally.
It would have helped if the flap opened at the back and the space for cables was either wider, or deeper, like the Micke.
In summary, with a few small tweaks this desk could be so much better.
Lovely but one faulty part unfortunately Anonymous reviewerI love this desk, it looks great and is simple but stylish. The drawers pull out nicely and it’s a good height. Unfortunately on assembly one of the front drawers a piece has been allowed to go to far (in the pre-made hole) and made a big very visible chip of the front which now looks awful :( we followed the instructions carefully as we always do with IKEA products and use many. Not sure if the quality of the product make for this one or perhaps just a faulty one item as happens as hole made too long... IKEA we would appreciate so much a replacement white desk draw front if at all possible please as do love the desk otherwise, is that possible please? Many thanks

I’m a 76 year old female and I built it myself with no problem at all. I’m using the desk to sit at to dry and style my hair, and keeping my dryer etc in the compartment at the back all hidden away and tidy 👍🏻

What is particleboard?
Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.
