Amazing but …Anonymous reviewerEverything good that people write about these is true. They’re IP 67 waterproof. Battery life is astonishingly good. And the hardware works. Importing into something like Home Assistant works fine and setting up routine routines to turn on device devices based on motion and all light levels is relatively straightforward.
However … there is something very wrong about the updating the firmware specifically on these devices. I have bricked 3 out of the 8 I bought. Every otherIKEA matter device I have has updated without issue.

But please note below.
Matter over thread devices are not easy to set up, if you do not have IPV6.All matter over thread devices need IPV6 to work efficiently. If you have an Alexa border router running on an internet provider that does not support IPV6 they will not work. If you are considering a matter over thread smart home in the future? Be aware one major internet provider does not use IPV6 they only use IPV4
Whatever system you have, ensure IPV6 is running. Also add mains powered matter over thread devices first. To ensure a good mesh system.
Easy setup. Works first time (Home Assistant)Anonymous reviewerI've currently got two of these in my Home Assistant setup (Matter over Thread). Easy to setup, connected first time, and then integrate into my setup. They have been reliable and the battery life seems to be quite good too. I'll be getting more of these for this price!
More difficult to setup than building flat pack furniture Anonymous reviewerI got 2 of these sensors and new bulbs to replace my oldest Tradfri 1st gen items. They started bad, but got pretty good and recently have got a bit flaky. I wanted these to be good, I wanted adaptive lighting and a longer period of light after activation. However, they must have a Thread mesh to work and they just won’t maintain their network connection.
I should’ve known when it took a 90 minutes call with customer services to set up a Myggbett door sensor installed 2m from my new Dirigera hub.
I had multiple attempts to install the bulbs and sensor in the Ikea app, but only once I had moved the hub literally next to the sensor and lights, did it work. As soon as I moved the hub to set up the next group, the first group went offline. The single light bulb in the opposite corner of my living room had gone offline too now, as has the original door sensor. I am now going to reinstall my Zigbee items and wait for another major improvement while I return 90% of these new Thread items
Not ReadyAnonymous reviewerLet's deal with the good first. Solid, well made, easy to fit and a price that is a complete market distruptor - amazing.
But... I have an extensive IKEA smart device house and these (and the new Matter bulbs) are my first experience of Matter/Thread and it isn't a good one. There have been issues with the existing devices for years but I have found a way to work around those, but these matter devices are not reliable. They stall half way through setup, or setup and work but shortly after simply stop working. A hub reset often helps for a short time but issues soon return. I am an accomplished IT engineer so have tried many hours of fault finding, resetting, moving devices, changing phone wi-fi bands even trying Home Assistant instead of IKEA Home Smart - my conclusion is that either hardware or firmware or both is not ready for market yet.
7 bulbs, 4 of these motion sensors and 4 remotes (all Matter) all share the same issues and are being returned.
Great Value Motion and Light sensorAnonymous reviewerThis has proved to be a great value sensor. I assumed it was only an occupancy sensor. However, it also is a light sensor, provide lighting measurements that can be used in Apple Home (and similar) automations. Because it is Matter over Thread protocol it was an easy set up with the Apple Home setup. I used my Home app on my iPhone and scanned the Matter QR code provided on the instructions. This is also available on the physical sensor, along with the printed numeric code. It was an easy add to the setup. It is working well and triggers lights and brightness automations in my kitchen. Superb value money.
No idea how this worksAnonymous reviewerI followed the instructions in the leaflet. All they showed me to do was to insert batteries. I did that. Light did not work.
Something popped up on my phone asking me to scan the qr code on the product. (It isn't on the product but it is on the box.)
Nothing happened. Again and again.
So it said I could enter a code.
But I have no code and it didn't tell me where to find it.
I went onto tube which suggested I could use another IKEA product I do not have.
Or I could use apple....providing I have an iPhone. I don't have an iPhone.
Or I could use Bluetooth. I tried that but my phone said that won't work.
So, an hour wasted and a product useless to me. Back to Oxford st tomorrow to return it and the batteries.
Please improve your instructions IKEA, especially for we old folk.
Needs more information in the shopAnonymous reviewerI was interested in the new smart home range of products but Ikea needs to provide more information in the shop to explain how these work and what you will need to make them connect. For example do you need to buy the Deriga hub or can you use anything else if you simply want to connect the Myggspray sensor to activate a light?
I found it would connect directly to my Amazon Echo and it would then connect to a SonOff mini light switch. Unfortunately this was intermittent and seemed to have a delay of a couple of minutes before it would reactivate the light.
I appreciate that this may be a problem caused by any of the three systems being used and I may be able to solve it eventually. But Ikea do seem to be thin on providing information about their products and how to start using them.
OK if you are an experienced user of smart home products and can sort it yourself but not for the new customer attracted by the attractive price and keen to start adding smart products to their home.

Good basic operation in HomeKitAnonymous reviewerI have three of these sensors, positioned both inside and externally. They connected first time to my Apple Home/Homekit thread network via Matter and they have been stable and reliable so far. I don’t use the Ikea hub, utilising an Apple TV as border router.
I paired them with my Homey set up as well, but they became unreliable in Homey flows so reverted to HomeKit only control. Multi admin in Matter is a problem shared with many brands so no real surprise there.
The physical design is excellent. IP67 rated for outdoor use and with a mount that is flexible for freestanding, wall and corner mounting.
Yes there are some limitations. The motion detection range cannot be altered (and they do trigger at 10m) and the lux readings at typical indoor lighting levels report much lower than the actual levels. Brighter levels outdoors seem better calibrated.
For £7, these do the job for basic sensor duties provided you can keep to one admin system and don’t need precise calibration.
Great Matter Sensor in Home AssistantAnonymous reviewerYou do need a thread router so some Apple TV's will work or Eero routers. But once installed works perfectly and uses hardly any power. If you have Home Assistant look for the Myggspray Blueprint as it's brilliant.
Good but not greatAnonymous reviewerThe sensor's well-designed, in terms of placement/mounting, size, and functionality. I noticed a nice feature, the mount is subtly designed to prevent mounting the wrong way round, with one side flat to prevent someone unknowingly placing it the wrong way in!
While 90% of the time it is reliable, it can sometimes not detect me, for example, this morning, when it was dark, 2 sensors missed me when I needed them to activate my lights, whereas now, they activate normally.
Normally, the results are satisfactory, and I really cannot complain about the price; the value is terrific!
PS, there are a lot of reports of poor connection issues at the beginning, I bought a few ikea smart home bits on the new Thread protocol. Resetting the device by pressing the button for 10 seconds sorts this out!
The worst part about these is that nowhere on the product page does it inform the customer of the thread protocol. It's a great protocol, but misinforming a potential customer is not something good!

Terrible qualityAnonymous reviewerI bought 8 of these at the first round one of them failed after a week. Dropped the network and never connected again. Even factory reset was not working. Took it back to the shop and bought a replacement one. The replacement item is even worst, no lights at all. Also faulty. IKEA do you have any quality control or something? Sorry but that’s not right.
One already died after a week of useAnonymous reviewerI recently bought nine of these motion sensors. One already died after a week of use. It is powered up but not communicating. Tried factory reset it but not able to add again to the system. It sounds like some fault with the radio part of thr unit.
Patchy at bestAnonymous reviewerAdded to a thread network and it only triggers a handful of times, I’d say 80% of the time I can walk around 1 to 2m in front of it and it doesn’t detect anything, then an few hours later it’ll work for a while, then stops again for a few hours. Using the IKEA recommended batteries which it’s reporting at 100%.
The thread switch beside it is working flawlessly so far.
Excellent sensorAnonymous reviewerThis is working with matter over thread and is as easy to set up as a zigbee device, this device has never let me down yet. If it's not working on your network it's likely your home network and not this device. My only wish is if it exported some sensitivity control
