Billy Holes 4mmAnonymous reviewerI have about 200 empty shelf pegholes in the Billy bookcases I’ve just assembled. Given how much it spoils the look of these black bookcases I wanted to cap these. Looking on the IKEA website I found these caps but noted a 5 mm hole is required.
IKEA literature suggests Billy is one of IKEAs most popular product lines. If this is true, I really cannot understand why IKEA don’t provide or sell caps that will fit in the empty holes.
If I’m right, and you don’t, surely it would be a good idea to get some made and included with the product or at least make them available to buy. I currently have a wall covered in black Billy bookcases which looked great from a distance but not so good when you can see 200 or so holes.

The whole holeAnonymous reviewerAfter installation of IKEA kitchen, three unopened packs of these were left.
They are for putting in the holes where shelves can be mounted, inside the cabinet. So obviously, unless you open the cabinet door & there is not too much stored inside, then you might see some of the unused holes. If this bothers you & feel you have the time, you can put these little bits of plastic into those holes. & if you ever want to move the shelves inside the cabinet, you’ll have to remove them first.

Can`t that be made more obvious on the product page? it says they are for 5mm holes - I do not have an intimate knowledge of hole sizes in Ikea furniture.

What is PE plastic?
PE, or polyethylene, is a versatile plastic with many uses. It can be soft and flexible as well as tough and strong. At IKEA we use PE for things like plastic bags, freezer bags, ice packs and chopping boards. A big reason why we like this plastic is that it can be made from renewable raw materials like corn and sugar cane.
