Småland

We like to make visiting IKEA both fun for kids and easier for grown-ups.

Småland is our free supervised play area, located at the entrance of our stores. IKEA Småland co-workers will take care of your children for free for 60 minutes while you can enjoy shopping in-store.

Småland reopening

All Smålands in our main stores are now open, with the exception of Manchester, Birmingham, and Croydon.

For more information about Småland opening hours, please visit your local store page.

How does Småland work?

  • Visit Småland in-store. If your child is aged 3 - 10 years old (up to the child's 11th Birthday), you can sign in your child for a session at Småland near the entrance of our stores. If there is an estimated waiting time, you'll be informed of this at registration.
  • Fill out the registration form for yourself and your child at one of our Kiosks. All parents or guardians can sign in a child, but they must be over the age of 18.
  • Enjoy shopping for 60 minutes around our store while your child does arts and crafts, reads books or plays with lots of imaginative and interactive toys including a ball pool.
  • Pick up your child. You will receive a notification when it is almost time to pick up your child(ren). Please note, the person who signed in the child must be the person to collect the child.

Småland rules

  • Småland is a supervised play area for children aged 3 - 10 years old (up to the child's 11th Birthday).
  • You are not allowed to leave the store while your child is in Småland.
  • We work with a 1:8 ratio unless stated otherwise on the day.
  • All children with SEN will have a ratio of 1:1 on their first visit to allow staff to complete a care plan and risk assessment if needed.
  • Only 1 person can be responsible for signing a child in and out of Småland. The person who signed the child in must collect the child from the Småland entrance.
  • All children must wear a security belt.
  • All children must wear tied or velcroed shoes to have full access of Småland.  Due to safety concerns, any other shoe style may limit the activities your child can enjoy and will be at the discretion of the Småland team.
  • For hygiene reasons, all children must have clean shoes before entering Småland.
  • For safety reasons, it is recommended that children do not wear jewellery when entering Småland. If this is not possible, please be aware that certain activities in Småland may be restricted. IKEA would not be liable for any damage or loss of these items.

Småland safety

  • In the event of an emergency, staff will evacuate your child to the assembly point.
  • Should we need some assistance with your little one(s), you will receive a notification on the pager given at registration asking you to return to the Småland play area.
