How to maintain a wood veener worktop?

The wood veener worktop has a 3 mm thick layer of solid wood on top of a chipboard core. These instructions do not apply to veenered furniture, which cannot be sanded or oiled.

The worktop has been treated with an oil wax during the manufacturing process and does not need to be treated until it shows signs of wear or starts to dry out. When this happens, it should be oiled with TRIXIG wood oil (250 ml or 500 ml). For daily cleaning, use water or a mild detergent. Do not use chemicals.
With wood oil treatment about once a year, the worktop surface will stay in good condition for years. Areas around the sink and hob should be treated more often.
  1. Start by cleaning the worktop and lightly sanding the surface with fine-grit sandpaper in the direction of the wood grain.
  2. Wipe away the sanding dust with a dry cloth.
  3. Use a cloth or brush to apply a thin, even coat of TRIXIG wood oil.
  4. Leave the oil to penetrate for about 15 minutes, then wipe away any oil that has not been absorbed with a soft cloth.
  5. After applying the first coat of oil, lightly sand the surface with fine-grit sandpaper.
  6. Allow the surface to dry and repeat the oil treatment after a few days.
Scratches and light stains can be sanded away with sandpaper. Worktops installed above a dishwasher, washing machine or oven must be protected from moisture with a FENSJÖ diffusion barrier, attached to the underside of the worktop.
