How to maintain a wood veener worktop?
The wood veener worktop has a 3 mm thick layer of solid wood on top of a chipboard worktop. NOTE! This instruction cannot be applied to veenered furniture. They cannot be sanded or oiled.
The worktop has been treated with an oil wax during the manufacturing process and does not need to be treated until it shows signs of wear or starts to dry out. In this case it should be oiled with TRIXIG wood oil (250ml or 500ml). Use water or a mild detergent for daily cleaning. Do not use chemicals.
The worktop surface will remain in good condition for years to come if it is maintained with wood oil about once a year. The areas around the sink and the hob should be oiled more often. Start by cleaning and lightly sanding the surface along the grain of the wood with fine sandpaper. Wipe off the sanding dust with a dry cloth. Apply a thin, even layer of TRIXIG Wood Oil with a cloth or a sponge. Allow the oil to soak in for about 15 minutes and wipe off any unabsorbed oil with a soft cloth. After the first coat of oil, sand the surface lightly with fine sandpaper. Allow the surface to dry, and repeat the oil treatment after a few days.
Scratches and light stains can be sanded off with sandpaper. Worktops on top of dishwashers, washing machines and ovens must be protected from moisture by a FIXA diffusion barrier, which is fixed to the underside of the worktop where the appliance is located.
