With the IKEA Second Chance Buyback Service, well-preserved IKEA furniture can find a new home. If your piece of furniture meets the requirements, you can sell it back to IKEA and receive an IKEA prepaid card. If a buyback is not possible, IKEA offers various disposal and recycling services.
Which products are suitable for the second chance buyback?
Only original IKEA products that are clearly recognisable as IKEA items, for example by a product label or marking, are eligible for buyback. The piece of furniture must belong to you, be handed over fully assembled, and be complete, clean and functional. In addition, it must not show any signs of wear and tear and must not have been converted or altered.
In principle, many pieces of furniture from the areas of storage, shelves, office, tables, media furniture, cabinets, children's furniture and selected garden furniture can be bought back. These include, for example, chests of drawers, sideboards, bookshelves, desks, TV furniture, dining tables, cots or cabinets. Garden furniture can be bought back as long as it does not show any weathering damage.

Which products are excluded from buyback?
Products from other manufacturers, items without a recognizable IKEA marking and damaged, incomplete or modified furniture will not be repurchased. Also excluded are sofas and armchairs, upholstered or fabric-covered furniture, mattresses, bed textiles, carpets, pillows, towels, complete kitchens, kitchen fronts, worktops, electrical appliances and heavily weathered garden furniture.
The focus of the buyback service is on complete, safe and reusable furniture that can then be resold in the second-chance market.
What happens if my product is not eligible for buyback?
Even if a piece of furniture cannot be bought back, IKEA offers various options for disposal or recycling. This allows materials to be kept in the cycle for as long as possible.
Return and disposal of electrical appliances
WEEE can be returned free of charge, regardless of brand or place of purchase. A proof of purchase is not required. IKEA takes care of the proper disposal and recycling. Before handing in, you should definitely delete all personal data from your devices.
Small electrical appliances with an edge length of less than 25 cm can be handed in at any time at the IKEA store, at the customer service or at the exchange desk. Alternatively, you can find more Acceptance points via Interzero.
Larger electrical appliances with an edge length of more than 25 cm can be returned when purchasing a comparable new appliance. The take-back takes place either at the furniture store or when the new appliance is delivered. Prior registration is required.
Have old furniture disposed of
If you buy a new piece of furniture from IKEA and have it delivered, you can often have a corresponding old piece of furniture disposed of. The 1:1 exchange principle generally applies, for example a new bed for an old bed.
The furniture should be provided already dismantled for disposal. The booking must be made in advance and cannot be paid for by the service partner. The cost is €49 per piece of furniture. For two pieces of furniture, the corresponding €98 will be charged. The service is not available on all islands.
Disassembly before disposal
If you need help with disassembly, you can do it yourself or call for an assembly service via Book Taskrabbit.
The dismantling service can be combined with furniture disposal.
Disposal and pickup of sofas and armchairs when purchasing a new sofa
When buying and delivering a new IKEA sofa, you can book the disposal of an old sofa or armchair. The service includes collection from your home, dismantling if necessary, and professional disposal. The cost is €19 per seat. This service can also be used in conjunction with curb delivery.
Disposal of old mattresses
When buying a new mattress with forwarding delivery, your old mattress can be taken away and disposed of directly. The cost is €14 per mattress.
Disposal must be booked directly during the ordering process. Subsequent booking may not be possible with certain payment methods, such as Klarna or Ratepay. When you pick it up, the delivery team will bring a disposal bag. You pack the old mattress, then it is taken away and disposed of properly.
Other recycling options in the IKEA store
In addition, batteries, rechargeable batteries and bulbs can be handed in free of charge in many IKEA stores. Packaging can also be disposed of in the store, at IKEA recycling stations or via the municipal collection systems or the Green Dot.
