Simply explained – so that your furniture gets a second chance With the IKEA buy-back service, we make it possible for furniture in good condition to find a new home. In order for this to succeed, there are clear criteria as to which products we accept – and which we don't.

1. Which products are suitable for the second chance buyback?

In order for your piece of furniture to find a new home, clear criteria apply.

1.1 Basic requirements for the buyback

Your piece of furniture must:
  • Be in good condition
    • Clean, complete and functional
    • no heavy signs of wear
  • Be an original IKEA product
    • Recognizable by logo or product identification
  • Be unchanged
    • No conversions or modifications
  • To be handed over fully assembled
  • Be complete
    • No individual parts (e.g. no doors without a carcass)
  • Belong to you
Important: We cannot buy back incomplete or damaged furniture.

1.2 Product categories suitable for buyback

The buyback applies to: Complete and functional furniture from these areas:

Storage & Shelves

  • Chests of drawers
  • Sideboards
  • Bookshelves and shelving systems
  • Storage Combinations

Office & Workspace

  • Desks
  • Drawer Elements
  • Small furniture with drawers

Tables & Multimedia Furniture

  • Dining tables
  • small Tische
  • TV and multimedia furniture

Seating (limited)

  • Chairs and stools
  • only unupholstered or with leather

Cabinets & Children's Products

  • Cabinets
  • Baby and children's furniture
    • e.g. baby cots, changing tables

Garden furniture

  • only without traces of weathering

1.3 Non-Buyable Products

Some products are excluded from repurchase:

General exclusions

  • No IKEA products
  • Products without recognizable labeling
  • Damaged, missing or altered furniture

Specific product groups

  • Sofas and armchairs
  • Upholstered or fabric-covered furniture
  • Mattresses and bed textiles
  • Carpets, cushions, towels

Kitchens & Technology

  • Complete kitchens
  • Individual kitchen elements (fronts, worktops)
  • Electrical appliances

Outdoor with signs of use

  • Heavily weathered garden furniture

Return & disposal of electrical appliances

Not everything is suitable for buyback – but you can do a lot Easy to dispose of.

2.1 General Returns

  • Returns possible even without IKEA origin
  • No proof of purchase required
  • Free for you
  • We take over Recycling & Disposal
Important: Please delete all personal data beforehand.

2.2 Differentiated by device size

Small appliances (< 25 cm)

  • Drop off at any time in the store
  • at the customer service or exchange counter
  • also possible via partners (e.g. interzero)

Large appliances (> 25 cm)

  • Returns only when purchasing a comparable new device
  • Returns possible:
    • in the furniture store
    • or upon delivery of the new device
Prerequisite: register in advance

2.3 Supplementary Disposal Services

Collection of old furniture

  • only with delivery of a new piece of furniture
  • Requirements:
    • same order
    • approx. 7 days lead time
    • Furniture must be ready to be dismantled

Disassembly-Service

  • Option 1: dismantle yourself
  • Option 2: About TaskRabbit
  • Can be combined with disposal
 

Picking up and disposing of your old mattress when you buy a new mattress

We also offer to take away and dispose of your old mattress – but only under certain conditions:
  • Only in connection with the purchase of a new mattress and Forwarding delivery possible.
  • Not available at Parcel deliveries.
  • No drop-off at the store possible.
Costs
  • 14,00 € per mattress
Important for booking
  • The service must be directly when ordering can be booked.
  • A subsequent booking is not possibleif you paid with Klarna or Ratepay.
How it works
  • Our drivers bring a suitable disposal bag with them.
  • You pack your old mattress yourself.
  • We then take them with us and take care of the professional disposal.

2.4 Further returns in the store

2.5 Disposing of packaging

  • Return to the store possible
  • or:
    • via the Dual System (Green Dot)
    • at IKEA recycling stations

In a nutshell

  • Buyback:
    • only for complete, functional IKEA furniture
    • Clear restriction to selected categories
  • Not possible:
    • Upholstered furniture, textiles, kitchens and electrical appliances
  • Alternative:
    • Simple and free disposal services
