How does a kitchen planning appointment in the IKEA store work?

This guide explains the chronological steps of your kitchen planning appointment in an IKEA store – from the first considerations to the finished kitchen design.

  1. Before you book
To make the most of your planning appointment, we recommend preparing in advance. Get inspired by exploring our kitchen styles online and, most importantly, measure your kitchen space. Accurate measurements are the crucial first step for a successful kitchen design

We support you in making this step easier, for example with our Video instructions for kitchen measurements.

Also think about your needs: write down your kitchen ideas and any current challenges so you can discuss them with our IKEA kitchen experts.
  2. Book your appointment
Once you are prepared, you can easily book your planning appointment via the IKEA kitchen planning services page.
  3. Receive confirmation of your appointment
You will receive a confirmation of your chosen appointment by email, including further information on how to prepare. The instructions may vary depending on when and where the appointment takes place.
  4. Reschedule or cancel your appointment
We know that plans can change. If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please try to do so at least 24 hours in advance using the “Reschedule” or “Cancel” button in your appointment confirmation email.

If you cannot find the button, you can also reschedule or cancel your appointment using our contact options.

If you wish, you can also convert an in‑store appointment into a virtual online session by informing our IKEA kitchen experts, who will contact you before the appointment.
  5. Preparing for your appointment
Please bring your kitchen measurements, collected inspiration ideas or images, as well as your list of kitchen ideas and current challenges to the appointment.

If you have already started a design in the IKEA Kitchen Planner, have your planning number or login details ready so that our IKEA kitchen experts can access it quickly and easily.
  6. During your appointment
    Our IKEA kitchen experts will:
a. Check your measurements and discuss your needs to ensure the design is functional.
b. Create or refine your kitchen design together with you in the IKEA Kitchen Planner.
c. Choose products, including appliances and custom countertops, that fit your style and budget.
Please note that we do not offer advice on structural changes to your space, such as removing walls or relocating water, gas, or electrical connections. We recommend discussing such changes with a qualified professional.
  1. Result of your appointment
At the end of your appointment, you will receive a complete planning package. This includes:
    • a 3D design of your new kitchen,
    • a complete product list,
    • a price quote for the kitchen, and
    • a cost estimate for delivery and installation.
Your kitchen design will be saved to your IKEA account or emailed to you, so you can access it at any time.
When you are ready, our IKEA kitchen experts can support you directly with ordering your kitchen. You also have the option to take time to consider your decision and book a follow‑up appointment.
