How do I take measurements of my kitchen?

When it comes to kitchen planning, every millimetre counts. So that you can take your measurements yourself quickly and easily, we can provide you with video instructions. If you need support, you can book our professional kitchen measurement service.

  1. Preparations. Before you start measuring

To ensure that you get accurate measurement results, your kitchen space should already be in its final condition. We call this "ready to move into".
  • Plumbing, gas and electricity connections must already be in the final positions they are to occupy in the new kitchen.
  • Have tools ready: Have a tape measure or laser measuring device, pencil, and paper or notebook ready to write down your measurements. Alternatively, if you want to take your measurements digitally and have appropriate equipment, you can use them.

  1. Take the measurements of your kitchen

If you have never measured a kitchen before, we recommend that you use our video tutorial. It guides you through the process step by step and includes helpful tips. You can pause the video at any time and measure at your own pace.

Be sure to document all measurements carefully. Write down all relevant information as you measure – it's the same detailed list that our professional technicians use.
  • Room dimensions: Measure the width, length of each wall, and ceiling height. Mark the exact positions and dimensions of electricity, water, gas, and vents on each wall. Also, measure and enter the positions of any obstacles, such as radiators, pole supports, collumnss, or chimneys
  • Windows: For each window, measure the dimensions, the distance from the floor to the bottom edge of the window, and the dimensions of the window frame. Remember to also consider the space needed to fully open each window.
  • Doors: For each door, you should accurately measure the width, height, the door's thickness, and dimensions of the door frame. Also, note the distance from the floor to the bottom edge of the door. Don't forget to consider the space required so that each door can be fully opened.
  • Electrical: For each outlet, you should measure the distance to the floor and the nearest sidewalls. Also, note the amperage in amps and the number of devices you want to connect. Also, document the position of all light switches so that everything can be planned correctly later.
  • Vent: Measure the diameter of the vent, the distance from the floor to the bottom edge of the opening, and the distance to the nearest sidewall (up to the start of the opening).
  • Water connections: For each water connection, you should measure the distance to the sidewalls accurately. Also measure the distance of the water drain from the floor and the wall. Make sure to document additional connections, such as for a dishwasher, so that everything fits when planning the kitchen.
  • Gas connections: Measure the distance of the gas connection from the floor and the nearest sidewall. Also determine the diameter of the gas pipe and its distance from the floor and the sidewall.
  • Ceiling obstacles: Document the position and dimensions of all obstructions on the ceiling, including sloping ceilings.
