Great Garage Storage, Easy to AssembleMarsieThe Omar system is one of the easier IKEA products to assemble. The trickiest part is deciding shelf spacing (which is up to the user).
My husband and I use Omar shelving in our garage. We have had Omar shelving for the past 5 years and have been impressed with how much load the shelves can handle. When we needed more storage, we went straight to the Omar shelves.
Additionally, we like that there are parts to secure the shelving to the wall.
Poor Design ChristopherVery disappointed in the flimsy plastic collars. They don’t fit well and tend to slide around when you are putting together the shelves. Hopefully they hold up. If I realized what this was going to be, I would not have ordered. They do look decent once set up.
AVOID AT ALL COSTSJeffI bought six each of the wider and narrower shelves. Total of 12 units needing assembly, with the second six stacking on top of the first six.
This thing is so POORLY constructed that it is laughable. I know this is IKEA and we are meant to expect crap, but this takes crap to a whole other level.
The problem is the black pieces that you are meant to snap onto the four columns and which are SUPPOSED to hold the shelves in place. They are made of very low quality plastic and they just aren't machined with the right tolerances. Some of them snap onto the pole as they have the right diameter. Others have a smaller diameter and won't fit all the way around the columns. Of the 24 pieces that each unit comes with, nine of them had diameters that were 2-3mm smaller than the others. So nothing fit. And, as a result, the shelves don't stay in place.
If you are going to use this kind of system, you need the manufacturing tolerances for each part to be consistent...these aren't.
GREAT STORAGE/INSTRUCTIONS NOT CLEARBethFOR THE TALL UNIT YOU GET TWO SMALL ONES. DIRECTIONS DON'T SHOW HOW TO ATTATCH TOGETHER. ASSEMBLE EACH ONE SEPARTELY. DO NOT PUT THE FINISHING PLUGS ON THE BOTTOM UNIT. THE SCREW IN FEET OF THE TOP UNIT WILL FIT INTO THE OPEN POLES OF THE BOTTOM UNIT SECURING THE TWO UNITS TOGETHER. THIS IS UNCLEAR IN DIRECTIONS AND I SEE MANY REVIEWS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS.

The product photos display in the catalog are not correct since the units are not made to be stacked into a single shelfing unit of 36 1/4x14 1/8x71 1/4 as described/measured. Even the assembly manual is not recommended to stack. Should disclose all required information on product usage/capability.

They were easy to assemble and once assembled I found them to be sturdy. They are made well and you can adjust the shelving height according to your space needs.

functional, sturdy enoughReadNo complaints. Description could be clearer, that it's just two of the three-shelf version. I suspect it'll end up difficult to change the height of the shelves after they've been in place a while with weight on them, that they'll end up pretty stuck—but if I broke one of the little pieces that holds a shelf in place I'm sure Ikea would give me a new one, as long as they keep making it (and making it the same way).

why is the price more than doubled? Genuinely curious, as Its not even safety rated and does not state how much it can hold per shelf, ect. Great piece, but I need more and Seville has the exact same thing for half the price of ikea. sad but i will be ordering more of these from seville instead.
