I guess it works 🤷🏼♂️GregorySo this thing you attach to the back of the shelf unit to help keep it stabilized. Installed with four screws. I can’t help but think the entire fabric of the universe would unravel if not for this cross-brace.

The hole spacing is not indicated at all…Anonymous reviewer… and yet it’s critical to having the shelves be plumb. By my precise calculations, the vertical hole spacing when centered laterally on the rear posts are 21” exactly if using the 33” wide shelves and 35.5” when using the 17” narrow shelves. This is determined using basic geometry. Note the Observator’s two top holes on the “X” need to be equal distance down (or up) on the rear posts.
Ikea, I’ll let you update the product info with this basic info and convert to metric. Can’t believe after this many years you’ve left this out. I have installed over 20 of these Observators with this approach, and it is foolproof. Far far better than winging it and easier than using a level.
