Great IslandTimothyEverything is great except putting the drawer in5
Perfect Kitchen AdditionNikiThis solved our kitchen storage problem. Looks great and is all around awesomeness.5
Good quality productPDefinitely would recommend this product as I am currently using it as an island. Very sturdy even if it is easy to move around5
A lovely kitchen additonNicoleThis is a fairly functional and stylish counter addition to our kitchen. The drawer is a bit wonky, but it was a floor model so that's to be expected. And open shelving wasn't my first choice for cleaning purposes, but it's a nice height and it fits perfectly in our space.4
Pretty but not as shownStephanieThere were no holes on the outside for the towel rack. That was one of the selling points. Customer service said for us to just skip that part… umm we paid 400.00 for this to be as shown as it was in the store. Irritated but what can we do?3
Hooray extra workspace in the kitchenJeffThis is a great storage and workspace for our somewhat cramped kitchen. The extra countertop is really helpful. The hardware included was missing a screw, but as with other Ikea purchases we made it work!5
Great table, TERRIBLE instructionsJamesWonderful table, my wife loves it in the kitchen. As for the instructions, however......someone needs to go back to the drawing board. Very confusing and not easy to understand.5
Exactly what I neededMichelleWe bought two of these for our basement, to use in a-coffee/snack area we were creating. They are perfect for what we needed, well made and sturdy. Only negative is-in store it’s shown with a towel handle on one side, we had no towel bar parts in either box we purchased.4
Took my time putting thisRonaTook my time putting this together as I did alone. Recommend two or more people do it or, if you can afford it, hire someone. But as other Ikea assemblies go, it's not too bad. I really like the look and it's really sturdy.4
Great island!CindyThis island is the perfect size for our kitchen! We did have one hole that was a shade off on assembly that we needed to drill a little, but overall fairly easy to assemble and looks great!5
Love this!DianaFits perfectly in my kitchen, It was easy to assemble and very durable. Its a very nice looking piece, and very good quality.5
difficult to assembleChristineWhile this island is really pretty, it was a nightmare to assemble. The frame didn't fit together properly, and the drawer barely comes in and out of its spot. Also, the towel bar wasn't cut on the inside, so the screws couldn't screw into place. I had to buy a separate "cabinet pull" off Amazon in its place.2
Sturdy and AttractiveDonnaI bought this to create a coffee bar. It was easy to put together. It is the perfect size, and I get so many compliments!5
Solid constructionVerified BuyerWe purchased this for a throw table for the grandkids to drop their backpacks/bags when visiting. They don't really use the closets so we wanted something very stable that could take a little abuse on the top. I know it's a kitchen piece but it looks great in the small niche that we set it in and the butcher block top will take some use just fine. If needed I can sand it some years down the road. The structure is solid.5
Well constructed for the price.RobertI purchased this a couple months ago for added kitchen counter space. It's nicely constructed, but purchasers should be aware that this item is not designed for use with your meat cleaver. Assembly was relatively easy and quick. The drawer is large enough to store 5 of my cutting boards.5
Perfect small islandVerified BuyerI was so happy with how beautiful this looks in my small kitchen. It added some much needed extra counter space.5
Perfect fit and function!Verified BuyerEasy to clean surface. Great storage below. Fits beautifully as our kitchen island. Great buy.5
Verified BuyerJust what we wanted for our kitchen.5
Fits the purposeBarbaraWe got this to complete a kitchen remodel where we wanted a center island that could easier be moved if needed. This fit the bill. Price was right. Assembly was pretty easy except I can’t get the drawer to completely close. It just sticks out a little bit but still under the counter overhang so I am not going to worry about it. So far the top has not had any issues and we use it extensively.4
Great addition to the kitchenVerified BuyerWe needed extra counter space for the kitchen to prepare food and to store kitchen ware and appliances and this kitchen island has been great so far!! Perfect size and perfect color for us5

Better countertops with fewer trees

At IKEA we have a tradition of trying to utilize materials in the best possible way. For our countertops in thick veneer it means that we combine old craftsmanship with modern manufacturing methods. It makes the countertops easier to install, more stable and more resistant to humidity compared to solid countertops. And since we use the whole tree – even the crooked branches and the small twigs – we can save natural resources too.

Better worktops by using wood smartly

Wood is a precious natural resource. Even though it’s a renewable material it needs to be handled responsibly. One way to do it, is to use the wood more efficiently. That’s what we do with our kitchen worktops in thick wood veneer.

“At IKEA we have a tradition of trying to utilize the materials we have in the best possible way,” says Johnny Rietz, who’s been involved in developing the kitchen worktops in thick veneer. The work started in 2008 when IKEA founder, Ingvar Kamprad, visited one of our suppliers and asked a simple question that took some time to answer: ‘How can we make this product using fewer trees?’

Less is more

“After some trials and errors, we came up with the solution. A core of particleboard and a layer of solid wood on the outside – or thick veneer,” says Johnny. “It’s a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern manufacturing methods. Paper-thin veneer has been used in fine, decorative furniture making for centuries, but for our worktops we’re using a much thicker layer of wood.” The thick veneer makes the surface hardwearing, and it saves raw material – a lot of it. From the same amount of wood needed to make one solid worktop, it’s possible to produce five thick veneer worktops.

No wood is wasted

Another advantage with this production technique is that you can use the whole tree; the stem as surface, and scrap bits – curvy, bent branches and small twigs – for the particleboard on the inside. The end result is a worktop that is every bit as genuine as solid wood, only more stable and more resistant to humidity. “Sometimes a small, harmless question can make a big difference. That’s exactly what happened with our kitchen worktops. It started as a challenge to use resources wiser, and proved to have positive effects not only for the environment, but also the quality. I think it’s great when that happens!” says Johnny.

Material

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fiberboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
