Reviews

Uppland Sofa- Just wonderfulsabine h.This sofa is the most comfortable I've ever had. Perfect seat depth and length. Because of the removable cover that can be washed, I'm not concerned about using it heartily! Because I'm on the short side, I had to replace the legs to lower the sofa so that my feet would touch the floor. I bought a 4pack of Viskafors wood legs which lowered it to the perfect level. I cannot say enough good things about this sofa except that it's a MUST BUY.5
Uppland sofa is rock-hard and the cover is awful!Helen B.I've been purchasing various Ektorp covers for my smaller 20 year old Ikea couch with great success. Now I have the larger sofa with removable covers and find the sofa HARD and uncomfortable and the cover, cheap--almost sheet-like. Couldn't be more disappointed! I probably ought to have driven the 2.5 hours to an Ikea store, but assumed I was purchasing a 'known product'.2
DisappointedSally W.Having owned an Ektorp and more recently as of a year ago we purchased an Uppland Loveseat so I thought I knew what we would be getting when we ordered the Uppland sofa. We just received the Uppland Sofa after waiting months for it to be in stock, and this sofa is completely different from even the Loveseat we purchased one year ago! The back cushions come vacuum patched and are much thinner and cheaper made, and are completely different than the seat cushions. The cover is not the crisp white we have had in the past either, It is more of a milky white. Also, ours came with stains on the cover and the seat cushions right out of the box. We have always loved our IKEA Ektorp and Uppland purchases in the past, but this one is considerably cheaper made and we are deciding on whether we will be returning. IKEA you had a great product- wish you wouldn’t have changed it! I would have paid more for the original Ektorp than this cheap alternative.3
Very uncomfortable!Jocelyn O.I love the look of the sofa and loveseat. I'm also very pleased with the color. But, it is so uncomfortable. The fabric is so coarse that I use a throw on top of it. The bottom cushion is so hard, thick and stiff on both pieces but the top cushion on the sofa is so soft and on the love seat is over-stuffed and too hard. I had this furniture delivered and had someone else put it together. So I can't return it even though the comments on the reviews from IKEA say just return. I am a senior citizen and this is the most uncomfortable sofa/loveseat I have ever owned. I am so disappointed because I love my daughter's and didn't realize this updated model would be completely different. The angles and dimensions seem to be so different (uncomfortable). I feel I am stuck with this sofa for quite a while and can only hope it softens up quite a bit. I love you IKEA but this is just a very expensive MISS for me. AND now I cannot get an ottoman!1
Bring back Ektorp!!!!ERIN M.I Haaaaaaaate, absolutely hate this couch! I miss my Ektorp. The quality and dimensions on this couch are terrible I hate how deep the seats go and the lack of substance and support of the back cushions. Doesn’t even compare to Ektorp massive mistake on ikeas part to discontinue Ektorp.1
Just the right size, color, and comfort!JWe needed a comfy couch for our recording studio. This had removable back cushion for a nice overnight or day bed. Very comfortable. Easy to assemble, the cushions take a bit to wrangle while they inhale.5
sofaRebeccathe bottom cushions are too full and the back cushions need to be fuller. It was easy to put together.4
Could assemble aloneNicola V.Assembly involves six screws and adding legs. I’m a woman in my 50’s and was able to assemble the frame alone, as well as all the slipcovers and cushion covers. You do have to tip the sofa on its back and then on its feet again, but that was the most effort in terms of strength. The cover seems really durable, I got the dark grey but be aware it leans more toward slightly slate-blueish than the charcoal color in the picture (this actually works better for me). Bought the armchair too. Comfortable to sit on. Hoping the wrinkles relax, but may need steaming.5
A Sofa For Big PeopleMary H.I had three Ektorp sofas that I sold before we moved. I loved them! So I purchased one Uppland sofa for our new place with the idea that I would purchase more if I liked it. I read the reviews that mentioned that it was large but the closest IKEA to me is two hours away so I took a chance. It looks great but it's built for people (men and women) with long legs! I'm 5'2" and my husband is also short. I feel like a ten year old when I sit with my back to the cushions. My feet are about 6" off the floor! Other than that, I have no complaints so far. The color (Hallarp beige) is nice.4
Very good couchDouglasThis was a size appropriate couch for our living room. Enjoy with the Uppland ottoman. However the middle support in the ottoman came off. Also the ottoman is hard to move as it has no wheels and the ottoman is large and relatively heavy.5
This sofa was easy toRonThis sofa was easy to put together. I ironed all the covers before putting them on. I would like the front corners to hang more neatly than they do.4
Great color and fabric!AndreayGreat color and fabric!4
Upland furnitureJody M.Purchased the Upland sofa, loveseat, and ottoman. We went to a store to look at several sofas and after sitting on the Upland, we chose it. I read the reviews and was a bit nervous as done said it was difficult to assemble. I am glad i didn't listen because it was super easy. The covers were a little tricky but we got the hang if it.5
Comfortable sofaSooIt is easy to assemble and the cushions are easy to be put together. It is so comfortable to sit, love it every seconds.5
Great sofaSandyI love the upland sofa and arm chairs. The best feature is the washable slipcovers. Definitely pet friendly.5
Great sofa!NoraThe Uppland sofa was easy to assemble. I love the way it looks and is comfortable.5
Easy to put together. BackJENNIFEREasy to put together. Back cushions need to be straightened often but it’s perfect for a family/tv room. Ottoman makes it more comfortable.5
The sofa is exactly asKarenThe sofa is exactly as described.5
Flat CushionsDorothy C.I was very disappointed with this purchase. Unfortunately, as another reviewer mentioned, the back cushions were too flat/thin and never fluffed-up properly. The cover was loose and baggy on them. Even though it was difficult, I disassembled and returned this couch. I previously owned an Uppland Loveseat and it was perfect. I hope the cushion issue gets resolved as I would love to own one of these.1
It works!BenitaLooking for a pet friendly sofa that looks good. Check marks for both.5

Our take on cotton

We use cotton in many of our products, from sofas and cushions to bed linen and mattresses. It is a soft, durable, and renewable fiber that breathes and is good at absorbing moisture. All these great qualities make cotton one of our most important materials, but it isn’t without its challenges, much having to do with conventional farming methods that negatively impact the environment and poor working conditions for farmers. With our size and production volumes, we want to drive change in the cotton industry.

Working together to drive change

Each year, IKEA uses around 0.5 percent of all cotton grown around the world. This may not seem like a lot, but the number is big enough to drive change in the industry. For many years, we have been working with partners and stakeholders globally to transform conventional large-scale cotton farming and set social and environmental standards for cotton production. As an example, we helped set up the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) who runs the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. Today, more than 110,000 farmers have adopted more sustainable farming practices within IKEA projects.

Ensuring compliance throughout the value chain

All IKEA products are produced in accordance with the IKEA IWAY Standard, our Supplier Code of Conduct. It sets out the minimum environmental and social standards expected from our suppliers, including compliance with local laws. We do not accept any form of forced labor, child labor or treatments in breach of our supply chain requirements. Our cotton teams across the globe ensure that all cotton used in IKEA products meets the demands of compliance in our supply chain. By having teams on the ground in areas where it has previously been challenging to work responsibly, we can challenge the traditional ways of working and improve the industry. If we discover that we are acting in places where we cannot ensure our requirements are being met, we follow-up on the ground and drive change.

What is cotton?

Cotton is one of the world's most appreciated and used natural fibers. Textiles in cotton are soft, hardwearing and can be washed at high temperatures. They are also good at breathing and absorbing moisture – making them pleasant to wear close to the body. Today at IKEA we use more and more recycled cotton and strive to make sure that all the new cotton we use has been grown and produced with less and less amounts of pesticides, fertilizers and water.
