It’s just okay, not for daily useHayleyWe have a glass carafe for our coffee maker and wanted to use this daily to keep our coffee hot. It works fine to keep it warm most of the day, all day if you warm it up with hot water before pouring in the coffee. I say it’s not for regular daily use because ours has started to rust around the edges where the metal meets the plastic lid. Also, over the course of a few months the lid leaks to high heaven. It will not pour properly. We’ve had it since May and it’s October so it has lasted less than 5 months being used daily and hand washed. Pass if you need it for daily coffee, otherwise it’s nice.3

Tight FlaskMiriamI absolutely love the style of this vaccuum flask. I personally use it for hot beverages. It is black metal and insulates well. I recommend having this in your home. I also wish it came in other colors. 4

It does exactly what it says it would and it's greatJeffI've had my UNDERLATTA for a few weeks now, and it's changed my mornings. It works exactly as described -- I've left hot coffee in it for eight hours or more and come back to a nice warm cup with minimal temp and quality loss. I also have used it for iced coffee as well with similar outcomes -- at about eight hours later, the ice hadn't yet fully melted, and the drink was (unsurprisingly) ice cold. I'd been looking for a good carafe to pull weekend pourovers into, and this does the trick. Would recommend!5

Weird design flawsChristopherThis thermos is what I consider a rare Ikea design fail. It looks good but taking the lid off for pouring liquid into the flask is awkward. When putting the lid back the mechanics required are counter intuitive. When pouring into the flask the level inner ring means some liquid stays there rather than running into the flask as it should. When pouring from the flask with lid on the lid is visually distracting.2

Story

A better everyday one cup at a time

Have you had coffee or tea today? Statistically, you most likely have. In fact, these hot brews are the most consumed beverages in the world next after water. They’re a part of life that can give a silver lining to any moment. That’s why we decided to update our selection of products to make that perfect cup – from the tea infuser and the kettle to the milk frother.

Malin Ljungström, who was involved in developing the range, shares her insights. “To many, the smell of coffee and tea means well-being and a homey feeling. Since we want to improve people’s everyday, we’re offering products that make it possible for more to experience more feelgood moments at home.”

Developing things that make a difference

Malin and her colleagues dug deep into coffee and tea cultures to find out what tools people feel they can’t live without. They talked to specialists and investigated living, eating and drinking habits. “We wanted to develop items that make a difference, so we’ve focused on a few, but carefully selected products,” she states. The team cooperated with IKEA Test Lab in Älmhult, Sweden. It’s an IKEA version of a James Bond lab where prototypes are inspected and evaluated. “A couple of the things we checked were that the thermoses can keep fluids really warm for a long time. And that the glass mugs and glass pots are durable and comfortable, even though they look and feel light and airy,” says Malin.

Another good thing is that there’s something for all wallets. “It’s one of our contributions to a better life at home. A way to improve people’s everyday one cup at a time,” concludes Malin.

What is stainless steel?

Stainless steel is found in everything from building structures and cars to sinks and knives. It’s easy to see why it has so many uses. Stainless steel is hard and durable and has good resistance to corrosion – namely rust. It generally has a low nickel content, and for IKEA products we mainly use stainless steel that’s nickel-free. Like many other metals, it can be recycled again and again to become new, hardwearing items – without losing its valuable properties.
