This chair will poke youEujin C.I really really wanted to love this chair, but I just could not stand the material. The rattan material was pokey and splintering everywhere. I ended up returning it. The chair looks great and the price was right, but what's the point of a chair if you can't sit on it?1
Splintery, roughLenka S.I love the look of chair and it's size, that's why 2* but it is really splintery, very uncomfortable! To even sit on it, I have to cover it with a throw, so you actually don't see how pretty it is .. Can someone tell me pls of it's just a bad piece or all of them are splintery? My outdoor wickers are smoother than this one!2
Cool ChairAnniCame together easily.. nice chair in our covered porch.5
Pretty difficult to assemble- evenErinPretty difficult to assemble- even with a friend to help, we struggled. But it’s sturdy enough and looks great!4
Can i use outdoors?Tim D.Bought these used from Ikea and they look great. I figured they were patio chairs given they're rattan but I come home to read they're for indoors according to the description. Any reason they'd not work outside?4
Great chair!JeremyGreat chair!5
Rattan material arrived in bad condition despite being well packed.conrad k.I've been a customer for years and never got a bad product from Ikea until now, I was so exited about this chair, its a pretty design and it would have looked really cute in my Livingroom. The rattan material was really ratty, splintery, and dirty looking. It looked as if someone tried to fill in some spots with glue too, which was laughable since all the rattan was so ripped up (especially the arms). The black metal legs were lightly scuffed up as well. I have owned rattan chairs before and the condition this arrived in looked like it had been used regularly for a year even though each piece was wrapped very well. FYI the flat parts at the bottom of the legs are not black (my fault for not noticing this detail in the product pictures) they are a coppery gold metal and do not match the black finish.1
Stylish!!RUTHIEVery stylish and goes with my office decor!5
Just what my wife wanted.ROGERJust what my wife wanted. Matched one we already had.4
Extremely uncomfortableJoyce G.As visually nice as this chair is, it's not a chair that is particularly comfortable. It's extremely stiff, and after sitting it on it for more than 20 minutes, it definitely starts to affect your back. If you're looking for a chair to lounge in, I'd avoid this, or you might want to consider getting it some cushions. Also, this chair is reasonably priced, but considering the quality, I don't think it's worth the value.2

Invite nature into your home with rattan

Rattan is a living material with a will of its own. That’s why we work together with experienced weavers who shape the rattan vines to functional products. The cooperation means you can have handmade furniture in your own home - created by man and nature together.

Rattan is a fast-growing palm tree that needs to be boiled and sun-dried before it can be tamed into different shapes that we can sit on, rest in, or decorate our homes with. This is where the professional weavers come in. “We wouldn’t be able to make authentic rattan products without them. They have skills that can’t be copied by machines”, says Andreas Fredriksson, who has designed some of our rattan furniture together with the artisans.

One-of-a-kind furniture

With rattan, it’s possible to create round and organic shapes that are difficult to achieve with other materials. Every rattan vine shifts in color and shape. It makes it impossible to manufacture two pieces of furniture that look exactly the same. On the other hand, you get unique items with a warm and homely feeling. “There are simpler materials to work with, but the liveliness in rattan is what gives it character. It can create a pleasant contrast to some of the other things many of us have at home”, says Andreas.

In cooperation with nature

If rattan is treated right it can be transformed into almost anything, even furniture with generous forms that can fit in a flat pack. But the design is not only up to the designer and the artisan. “You have to cooperate with Mother Nature and come up with some new solutions as well – but the reward when you get everything to harmonize makes it worthwhile”, finishes Andreas.

Material

What is rattan?

Rattan is a strong yet lightweight and flexible material made from the rattan plant’s stem. It can be used both whole and split into thinner materials that are braided into things like furniture and baskets. Rattan belongs to the palm family and climbs along trees, though no trees are required to be felled when the rattan cane is harvested. Since it is a natural material and the products are often handmade by skilled craftspeople, each object gets a completely unique look.
