Comfortable stylish chairCathyThis chair is the perfect style and so comfortable. I needed extra seating and was looking for something that had a modern flair to it. I would definitely recommend it.5

VERY SAD!ScherriI am very sad about this chair. Love this chair but I bought 6 about a year ago and 2 have already cracked in the middle. I really wish IKEA would figure this out and help with this issue. I love this chair but this is so disappointing.3
Great chairs!CharlynnAfter fighting with the first one, the rest of the four of these that I bought were fairly easy to put together. I love the look and the ease of cleaning these. My only concern is that they look like they may scratch easily from jean rivets. That being said, they were inexpensive and look great in my dining room.4
Cute, but brokeFaithThis is one of my favorite ikea purchases and I have been in love with this chair, but it snapped down the middle and I am so sad! I want to get the same chair again, but not sure if I will since it broke so easily.. the chair is so cute so this is such a bummer! 3
A little heavyMartaThe chair is attractive and comfortable. The only drawback is that the base is wide which made it feel clunky. Plus, it was pretty heavy when moving it around. I had a set of four.4

Nice looking but crackedJennyThe chair looks nice. I brought 4 chair but 3 of them are cracked. I am not sure if we can replace only the plastic seat instead of a buying a new chair? Thanks.2
Dangerous crack down entire middle of seatRonI bought two of these Tobias chairs in late 2020. Both have cracked unexpectedly while sitting down on them. One nearly 6 months ago and the other today. Nearly went through it to the floor and I have spinal injuries. Needless to say they don't last more than a couple of years.1
UnhappyClarissaI have purchased 2 of these chairs for my makeup room and they have both split I rarely use them so disappointed and for the price never again1
TOBIAS chairs CrackedSilkeI bought 6 chairs and all of them cracked. For that price I would expect a better duration time than 1.5 years approx. Chair looks good but no quality unfortunately.1
Pretty until It BREAKSAlessandraI've bought a total of nine (9) of these chairs. We are not big people in my household. Originally, I bought eight chairs for my dining room. Then one chair snapped, right down the middle. We thought it was a fluke, so we threw it in the garbage, and bought a replacement. I the last month, three (3) out of the remaking 8 chairs have snapped exactly the same way. That is close to 50% failure rate. How these things are in the market is beyond comprehension. I'm out more than $500.1
Another cracked chair!DebbyWish I had read all the reviews about this chair cracking before purchasing two. Mine cracked also!1
Not ReliableBaileyI loved my Tobias chair. It's so sleek and takes up so little room visually and I love that about it but after less than two years my chair cracked right down the middle of the seat. I sit on it to work from home every day and one day it just split while I was working. I'm incredibly disappointed as I loved everything else about this chair but even being well under the only weight limit I could find of 110kg (I'm right around 81kg) the chair still broke. I'm so sad about it breaking and unfortunately won't be getting another one because I don't want to risk having to replace a chair in two years again. Extremely disappointing that such a visually appealing product from IKEA isn't at all reliable.1
Far from sustainableLupeTobias chairs are beautiful - I've purchased six and half of them have cracked in just a couple of years. I feel terrible having to toss so much plastic. Is it possible to buy only the acrylic seat so the base can be reused? I hope Ikea has a sensible solution. Thanks for listening.1
Cracked after barely a year!RodionSo disappointed. It was great until it cracked. I took a picture but there's no option to upload here.2
All 6 have crackedJenniferI bought 6 of these 2 1/2 years ago and as of today they all have cracked in the seat. The first one cracked when they were just past a year old. After that, one by one, they cracked. Each time it was because someone sat down not exactly centered. Only one remained uncracked, but I just sat on it sideways (legs to the side instead of in front) and it cracked too. I have taped the crack with clear tape, and added vinyl seat cushions to cover the cracks, so they are still comfortable to sit on, but I'm disappointed.3
Tobias ChairCaroleThis is my 2nd Tobias Chair. I have had to replace as the front center of the seat has cracked. I use it as a desk chair and perhaps it is not built for daily use. Not sure whether or not I will replace it with another Tobias Chair. 5/20232
PerfectSeanThe chairs are comfortable and have a nice size seat. They look great too!5

Our take on plastic

Plastic is a key material for IKEA, and remains so going forward. It is strong, durable, lightweight and versatile. It is a main component in a large amount of our products and has a wide variety of applications from surface materials such as paint and foil, to screws and shelf pegs. There is a lot of valid concern regarding how plastic impacts the environment and at IKEA we take this very seriously. As part of our larger circular journey and transition from virgin fossil based material, we are working hard to change all plastic in our home furnishing products to plastic made from recycled and/or renewable raw materials.

Only recycled or renewable plastics

Plastic is most commonly derived from oil and gas, which are non-renewable fossil sources. These sources do not renew themselves and will eventually be depleted. Our ambition is that by 2030, all plastic used in our products will be based on renewable or recycled materials. Renewable plastic is made from materials such as vegetable oil, corn, wheat grain and sugar cane. Recycled plastic allows us to give a second life to non-biodegradable products such as PET bottles that would otherwise end up in landfill. Using recyclable sources also lessens our dependency on oil as a raw material. Currently more than 40% of our plastic products are based on recycled and renewable materials and our aim is to reach 100%. As we add products made from recycled and renewable materials to our offer, we hope to inspire other companies to do the same.

Phasing out single-use plastics

Single-use plastic items pollute ecosystems if not disposed of responsibly. As part of our commitment to people and the planet, all single-use plastic products from the global home furnishing range were phased out in 2020. This includes items such as plates, cups, and plastic straws offered in our restaurants, bistros, and cafes. These were replaced by disposables made from 100% renewable sources.

PET and PP our most commonly used plastics

Polythylene terephthalate (PET) and Polypropylene (PP) are durable, hygienic and shatter-resistant plastics. They absorb very little water and have good chemical resistance. Both PET and PP can be reused and recycled, which reduces waste and gives the product several lives through use and reuse. PET is the most recycled plastic in the world and can be used for many different purposes such as plastic bottles and containers for packaging food and beverages as well as for personal care products, pharmaceuticals and many other consumer products. At IKEA we mainly use recycled PET in boxes, filling material for textiles and kitchen front foil. PET is approved by health-agencies as safe to use for food and beverage. IKEA uses recycled PET that is post-consumer based, which means it is based on collected and sorted PET bottles.

Clean and safe

IKEA takes product safety very seriously and all products are tested and comply with the strictest possible laws and safety standards on all IKEA markets. Customers should always feel confident that products bought at IKEA are safe and healthy to use. IKEA wants to minimize or totally refrain from the use of chemicals and substances that can be harmful to people and the environment.

Together, we can do more

Our journey towards only using recycled or renewable plastic will take some time and require new ways of doing things, but we are determined to take responsibility and find new solutions. We want to give our customers the possibility to choose products made from more sustainable materials that can be recycled again one day. Together, we can make a big difference!
