More than a bench! JulieI bought 10 of these benches and arranged them in 2 rows of 5 to hack together a raised dining and living platform, inspired by traditional Japanese and Korean homes. For less than $300, after taxes and delivery, I was able to get a ton of easily accessed storage and a deep sitting area. We've been living with the result for about a week and we love it so much.
It makes the best use of the only continuous wall in our small 10'x12' entry/dining/office room. Dining tables need at least 30" between the table and wall for chairs and manuevering space, which feels needlessly underutilized and formal for our small house. Hacking together a koagari is a much better utilization of space for our household.
It took me about 3 hours total to assemble all 10. Using an electric drill saved me time and sweat, plus frustration from slightly misaligned holes.

Holes not drilled properlyIanThere are supposed to be 4 screws holding the top to the sides. 2 of them do not fit because the holes are about 50% misaligned. It will probably still serve its function but im not confident about sitting on it. Should be good value for money if it assembled properly, but instead very disappointing QA.

So useful and great value for money. 4.5 starsCarolI bought 4 of these. 2 are the perfect nightstands. 2 are by my door for shoes - perfect size for tiny space. You’re not supposed to stack them but I did - I left the plastic feet off of one. I will attach them together once I decide for sure how I’m using them. Amazing for price. Mostly quite easy to put together except for this next part. Minus .5 stars because: 1) I think the instructions are wrong, and picture one of the parts in the wrong direction. The round metal part you put into the hole and then turn so it catches on a bolt already in the wood. I figured it out but 2) not before seriously stripping one of them. Not sure how metal can be this soft. Even the ones that I did right from the start I had to be careful not to let the screwdriver slip. And, they went in slightly crooked. It’s fine and you can’t see them, but I’ve used this kind of thing before and I know ikea can do better.
Very poor qualityKen2 of the 6 cam bolts broke when only hand tightening. The holes were poorly aligned causing the front of the lower shelf to crack. The package contained additional hardware not for this item (a poor reflection of the quality control). I've had a lot of Ikea furniture with no issues, nothing purchased recently though. This was so poor I would be VERY hesitant to buy any Ikea flat pack furniture again. I live an hour away from Ikea and after speaking to customer service I can only return the item. Not worth the time and effort I've already wasted.
