Not what it used to beTrishI had a poang that I loved for 10 years that broke and I recently bought another one to replace it. I absolutely hate the new one. My main complaint is that the cushion and chair have strips of Velcro to help the cushion attach. This would be great, except the cushion doesn’t fit the curve of the chair, so the Velcro won’t adhere well. The chair makes a scratchy Velcro sound every time you sit down as the Velcro tries and fails to adhere. You can also see the exposed strip of Velcro on the back of the chair where it misaligns (the exposed Velcro makes the chair look very tacky/cheap). I don’t know if all of the cushions are like this or just the kind I chose (skiftebo dark gray). But for an almost $200 chair, I’m so disappointed. I’m glad I saved my receipt, because this is going back.1
ChairAnonymous reviewerA very relaxing chair5
Poang with Skiftebo CushionAndrewI tried out a bunch of chairs in the showroom and picked the Poang in birch with the Skiftebo cushion (in dark grey). The Gunnred, Hillared, and Glose cushions felt good too. The yellow Knisa felt pretty good, but with the black and beige ones I could feel the frame poking my lower back. The low-back Poang didn't feel as good to me. Another chair called the Ekenaset was over my budget ($300) but also very comfortable. Picking up from the warehouse and completing the purchase were super easy. The two packages were pretty light to carry and not bulky. Assembly was straightforward. The frame seems to be solid plywood without any paperboard stuff. I think it could be disassembled and reassembled without being destroyed. The chair is very light and easy to move around, sturdy to sit in, comfortable, and has a nice bounce to it. I notice a bit of graininess on the armrests that some reviewers have mentioned. It doesn't bother me but could be sanded down.5
Very comfortable and easy to assemble.SharonPoang chair offers great back support!5
Comfort and durability.ScottWe have had one of these for over a decade and it is my favorite comfy place to sit and read. Recently needed a chair for a guest room and got another POÄNG and was a little surprised that the old one is still just as comfortable as the new one. These frames really hold up well.5
Perfect to sit in all dayKarenThese chairs are the most comfortable and look nice in all the available colors. I bought this one for my sister and don’t think she gets out of it. I have 3 of them. They are well made and sturdy. Love them and love IKEA!!!5
Poorly sanded uneven surfacesMaxim YankelevichThe wood is very poorly processed, the surface is uneven, it feels like you could get a splinter. Couldn't they have treat it with sandpaper? The design is not bad, but unsanded rough surfaces ruined it3
Great price! Great chair!TeresaWell made chair!5
Not as comfy as the old ones.LaszloThe old ones were comfortable unlike these new ones. It is also somewhat overpriced. The cushions are also very thin. The lightness of the chair is great but that is about it. 3
Timeless NicolasI have mine since 2002. Still looks like new.5
Needed sandingGregFor a $300 chair I wasn't expecting to have to sand it. The wood in the arms is gritty and rough like there is sand in the poly or it was just never sanded properly. Kind of disappointing as it's one of the easiest things to quality control for. Great design though.3
Not for bad backsPeggyEasily the most uncomfortable chair for my back, it is impossible to get out of. I have 2 barely used in a spare room collecting dust.1
Wonderful chair, second time we purchased!BruceThis chair is a wonder. Visually and structurally a work of art, and super comfortable. We have two of these, and they are great for sitting long periods without fatigue. Strong, yet easy to move around the room. And a terrific value - most furniture stores would charge much more for a chair equal to this one (and most stores won't have anything this good).5
Husband’s New Favorite ChairMelanieSince day 1 this is the chair he sits in. Has helped his back and legs5
Quality not greatRyanThe chair is comfortable but the material quality on this model is not great anymore. Owned it for a little over a month and had the left leg section crack and give out while watching tv causing the chair to collapse.1
Comfortable EdVery well designed, comfortable and affordable.5
Looks great from a distance but has a poor finish up close, and not very comfortable for extended times.WilliamI'm quite disappointed at the comfort level of this chair. I spent a good hour in IKEA sitting in various chairs, and probably sat in the Poang for about 15 minutes. It ticked all the boxes, somewhat affordable, delivers decent comfort, and seems easy to assembly. Well it is easy to assemble, and for short periods it is comfortable enough. However, the wood finish on it is terribly inconsistent. On the armrest portion the edges were quite sharp, and the wood finish would change from soft to rough, overall just unpleasant feeling. Forget about sitting in it to read for a while, the head cushion pushes your head just slightly forward to where it's fine at first but eventually becomes quite irritating. I do appreciate that IKEA allows returns for the built furniture and will be replacing it with another chair soon.3
Poor quality woodEmmaNot sure where the quality went with this chair. I got the brown wood one and the wood is not smooth at all and gets caught on all my clothes. 2
Very low to floor horrible itchingCloriaThe chair is extremely close to the floor. I also degan horrific itching from the cushion. 1
Everyone’s favorite chairAdeleThis is the favorite chair of everyone in my family. It’s stylish and affordable and comfortable; you can lean back and lounge in it. It was also very easy to put together. 5

What is layer-glued wood?

With layer-glued wood it’s possible to create flexible and extra strong constructions with curved shapes, like frames for armchairs. The secret is a technique where many layers of thin wood veneer are glued together and then pressed into the desired shape. We often use wood like birch, beech, ash and even bamboo – and strive to use the raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste. Just like solid wood, it has natural variations in structure and colour.
