Pros and consAndriyThe best part is probably the looks/materials, definitely better stuff than what you would generally find from ikea for what I would say is not a crazy price. There are 2 major cons to this lamp, 1: the beam is not completely straight when screwed in, and the base wobbles. I more or less expect this from IKEA furniture so I wasn't surprised that the build quality is not the best. 2: The most frustrating part by far is the bulb used by the smaller reading light. It's rated for only 3.2W and uses a g9 socket. There is maybe 2-3 bulbs that fit into this range, one of which is conveniently made by IKEA, and while the socket itself would be fine since adapters exit, the 3.2W maximum is honestly pathetic since even most g9 bulbs are between 4-5W. If you want this to be a smart light, you either have to gamble and use the new hue e12 3.9W or try to find the ikea e12 3.2 W which was just discontinued and is difficult to find.3
High style, high priceMollyThis lamp is well designed and SO cool looking! It goes together pretty quickly after all the pieces come out of some frankly VERY awkward packaging. What I don't fully understand is the high price of this item: it's a new product, I get that, but it's not like the prices ever come down. IKEA isn't alone in this; lamps are often mysteriously exorbitantly priced. It's just that you expect something different from IKEA! Prices that seem LOWER than they should! Not with this one. That said, as soon as I can afford another one, I'll be buying a second one, as I think it'll look even better as a pair in my living room.4
Terrible. The pole doesn’t screw well into the base, so the lamp is unstable JbI returned one lamp because it was wobbly as the pole did not screw tightly into the base. But since I liked the look of the lamp, I got a replacement, hoping the wobbly pole was a glitch.
The replacement was even worse than the first one: the pole doesn’t screw in at all. Totally useless. IKEA agreed to send me a replacement. I will give it one more try. It’s a pity. The lamp looks nice. Why are they unable to create a pole that screws in properly? 1
OK quality for the price.BenjaminFirst thing: This is intended for LED lights. The main bulb is only rated to 10.5 W. If you try to put a traditional 60W incandescent bulb in this, you are putting yourself at risk for fire.
It feels fairly sturdy and looks quite nice from a distance. The frosted glass is a nice step up from the plastic you'll find on many other lamps. The on/off buttons are also satisfying.
From close quarters, you see places where the design could be improved. The wood and metal parts meet flush, in a manner that exposes the edges of the wood columns: revealing misalignments, chips, gaps, and missing finish. This could be easily fixed by putting a slight cup to the metal parts, so the wood would nest inside, with any rough edges and gaps neatly hidden.
I am satisfied, but I was hoping for slightly better design at this price point. Some small design tweaks, and a higher wattage rating would elevate this to a 5-star product.3
Great QualityGrantJust got this, perfectly gives an ambient light behind my couch for the living room. Quality feels really nice and it looks great in my space.5
